Upgrading an STF machine to 4Mb

I would like to upgrade one of my machines to 4Mb, but I am a bit uneasy with the common upgrades I'm seeing - the plug-in boards for the MMU. These sockets are already quite delicate and I'm not sure that shoving something else on top makes sense. Any other upgrades that are safer, or should I just get on with the program and find an STE?

I would, except all five of my machines are a form of the "silly board" , C103225 or C070523...

The one by tf_hh, it plugs into the shifter socket and needs some wires soldered. Doesn't use the MMU socket.
