Now that the round is over... I'm a little surprised this post didn't get more attention, but if you want to know how Utopia works, specifically how scoring works, there's some great stuff in there.

I had eluded to the fact that the information was here to be found at AtariAge. There is good stuff in there! Still up to the player to figure out the right order of things though.

Most important thing to learn from that article is how much each area contributes to your score. What's the maximum score per round you can get from food? How many points does a school get you? A hospital? What are the 2 specific differences between a school and hospital, etc... ?

Yeah I saw that post and tried as much as I could to make it all work together from what I learned reading this post, but it just didn't really come together the way I was hoping it would... But for not playing Utopia at all growing up cuz I didn't have the cart, I'm content with coming in 5th.... Maybe next time I'd do a little better... The game is both fun and frustrating at the same time, lol ?

I figured everyone who was getting over 2500 points either read that post or had enough experience in the game to intuit the amount of food and housing they need. The big thing I learned from that was that income is just as important as food or housing. 

 

Which ultimately makes the game come down to how good you are at fishing. ?  It's cool that the game demands that balance of action and strategy.

I did a little of both. I read the article, but it was just too much info to keep the game fun. I didn’t want to resort to making tables and schedules. For me it was mostly a reminder of what to do and confirmation that I was on the right path.... because I did play Utopia as a kid. But yes, it was helpful. And would be essential for a newish player.
