Brand New Atari 7800 Cartridge Shells

This is something we all really need. Many of us have been waiting years for someone to do this. It hasn't really been done before because of the high costs involved compared to the relatively low cost of recycled shells. And yes, this is an expensive endeavor.

Atari made some poor design decisions with their 7800 shells, and frankly these are about the last ones I would try to copy. Why not design a better shell, rather than reproducing one that nobody was ever really happy with?

I get that you don't like the snaps, but unless you add several more screws, they are 100% necessary. Without the snaps, the single screw just isn't enough to hold it together, and it won't even keep the board secure. I just tried breaking the snaps off of a cartridge and putting the screw in and the structural integrity is very compromised. I can easily dislodge the board or even pull it right out of the shell.

Those holes under the label are a much-maligned design decision from Atari. I understand that they are there because it's easier to make a mold with the tabs below, but there are other ways to make a cart with tabs, as other manufacturers figured out. What's worse, Atari's pegs aren't even that good, as they snap off easily. I have tons of 7800 carts with one or both of these snapped off, just from normal use.

I don't want to sound too critical, as this is something we all really need and I am glad that someone is actually planning to do this, finally. But before you drop a mint on getting a mold made, I hope you will consider what we are all saying.

I have a feeling the mold is already made and what he is showing is a sample printing.

If you already had a mold made, hopefully you can at least add the snaps back in, so even with the flaws we mentioned, at least you have a functional shell to offer. If they can't add the snaps, the shell halves will probably have to be glued together upon assembly, which isn't ideal, but has been done before (I think Parker Bros shells are glued.)

I actually am working on that question right now if they can be added back in.

Probably around $20.00 or so. Shipping has become incredibly expensive for international parcels.

Can you make regular cart shells for the Colecovision? Nobody is selling these. You could become the Cart Baron.

I actually got a quote for the cartridge shell mold for this system. Its pretty expensive so I haven't move forward with it yet. Maybe this year I can make it happen.
