LYNXGUY #1 Posted August 29, 2020 Hello, what cable would I need to convert an original Atari joystick to usb ???
ACML #2 Posted August 29, 2020 The cheapest solution is the Retro-bits adapter cable if you can find them. I don't think they are produced anymore, but StoneAge Gamer may still have them. It only works on CX-40 type joysticks and wont work on paddle controllers. If you want it for CX-30 paddles, I'd suggest the excellent 2600-Daptor II which does pretty much every Atari controller.
Fierodoug5 #3 Posted August 30, 2020 Yup, get a 2600-daptor. I have one and it works great with joysticks and paddles. Only like $25 or so.

baktra #5 Posted August 31, 2020 (edited) Another possibility here: https://joy.sophics.cz/dual-joystick-usb-adapter/ I have one, and it just works. Edited August 31, 2020 by baktra

I can vouch for this one too ! Only issue is it's a bit big. Might be an issue if you have really thin notebook. Cable mounted ones are more .. flexible .. 😁 Edited August 31, 2020 by R0ger
StickJock #7 Posted August 31, 2020 You could always "roll your own" for less than $5 by getting a DB9 connector and a zero-delay USB joystick encoder.

I have a pair, they are fantastic. Makes the emulation experience so much more authentic when using the original controllers.
Gearhead Lu #11 Posted September 5, 2020 Another vote for the 2600-Daptor D9. I bought one a couple months ago and I have been meaning to give a shout out for the great product and fast shipping. Glad to support the small businesses that keep the retro products alive.
