JKK
I counted rather on s-video to hdmi. With good converter it shouldn't be so bad. I don't like to modify too much genuine hardware. As otherwise you can say that emulator would be the best option. In many cases it assures the same functionality, just it doesn't create all this atmosphere. Beeblebrox
I am currently going down the route of a DIN to S-video cable with S-video to HDMI upscaler to connect my modern LED monitor to my (PAL) XE A8's. (I hope the cable is going to be well shielded?!) So this: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/322480517537 and this: https://www.climaxdigital.co.uk/epages/BT3449.sf/en_GB/?ObjectPath=/Shops/BT3449/Products/111229 I've seen various version of the above upscaler but managed to get it for less than £30. The reason for this is after initially making the rookie mistake of going with an DIN to RCA cable via a cheap RCA to HDMI upscaler - which saw THE worse image, artifacting, jail bars and murky washed out colours. (Also likely that the upscaler was outputting at 60hz which I believe tends to make the colours lean towards yellows and browns because the PAL A8 output is 50hz). I want to see what is possible taking the S-video signal with external devices like upscalers before I consider internal mods - (amazing though they are (ie Sophia 1/2, UAV, etc)) - which I understand actually replace the original A8 components. I really wanted to source an upscaler that had adjustable aspect ratio so I could force a 4:3 image - since my widescreen monitor defaults to stretching the image to 16:9 naturally. Since I'll be using the same monitor with my Windows laptop I don't want to have to be adjusting settings all the time. Frustratingly Upscalers with adjustable aspect ratios are either hard to come by (https://www.amazon.co.uk/CoolDigital-RCA-Composite-HDMI-Converter-av-16-9-4%EF%BC%9A3/dp/B06XFTQK6N) OR cost a fortune and thus not justifiable. Fingers crossed! Pity I can't source Retrotink kit in the UK - the mini looks good. Edited May 26, 2021 by Beeblebrox

My bad: I meant I have this on order: https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B07WYJSSKZ/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 to go with the DIN to S-video cable. (I had the other upscaler on order but cancelled it).
