Jason Scott is reporting on Twitter that Curt Vendel passed away. 😞

He was always generous with me, lending me equipment, or taking photos when I asked. I was also able to help him out with some of his projects by 3D printing stuff for him.

He was a huge part of the success of the massive Atari exhibit at VCF East 2019. Thanks for everything Curt.

Here is a video of Curt's Atari exhibit at VCF East last year (2019). He also lent members of the Atari exhibition team some really rare unicorns to include in our displays as well.

Saw that on Facebook too. Was hoping it wasn't true. Very sad! R.I.P.

What a monumental loss to the community. His vast historical knowledge will be sorely missed as well.

Never enough time...

I am terribly sad to hear this news. The last time that I saw Curt was at Vintage Computer Fest East in 2019 but it had been more than 10 years since the last time that I had seen him before that.  It was great catching up with him and I was looking forward to seeing him again at this year's VCFE but of course the world prevented that from happening. Curt was an interesting guy to say the least; he had a manner about him that was kind of like a Mack Truck!  He was boisterous and self assured and a wealth of knowledge.  I really liked Curt a lot and am sorry that I'll never get the opportunity to talk with him again. :(

This is a big shock. I only spoke to Curt for the first time during the last year but he seemed like a great guy and his reputation preceded him. RIP.

Very sad. I only got to meet Curt a few times but I enjoyed the little time I got to spend with him. Last time I saw him was at last year's VCF East. He brought a fantastic Atari display.

I'll echo the sense of loss, I can remember seeing Curt's insights in posts in the old comp.sys.atari.8bit newsgroup to posts of recovered sources like the one here.

Very sad news, a huge loss for his family and Atari community.

We talked about Italian language A8 software on Facebook only four weeks ago...

This is shocking!  Have the circumstances of his passing been reported?  Was it expected?
