@Asaki now I'm super curious.  What makes this the best version of Goldeneye?  I like Bond but I wouldn't consider myself an aficionado so I had no idea there were better/worse versions.  Did they make Bond not shoot first or something?

I am curious about this too.  To me it sounds like he is saying the quality changed, but maybe it is editing.

With the Ultimate Edition DVD, the picture got cropped quite a bit. Some suspect they may have accidentally (?) used a fullscreen master instead of widescreen. It also omits the burned-in golden subtitles, so it's just chunky, white DVD player subs. http://sd.caps-a-holic.com/vergleich.php?lang=en&vergleichID=211

The Bluray release finally fixes the cropping issue, but there's a LOT of digital processing applied to the picture (DNR and edge enhancement). I don't know if any of the re-releases have fixed it, but when the original BD set shipped, everyone said Goldeneye was the worst looking of the bunch by far :( Would love to get it on BD if they ever fix it, it's my favorite Bond.

I have that version of Goldeneye and the full set of movies that were released in that "Special Edition" packaging.  It is everything before Die Another Day.  I have probably watched Goldeneye at least twice in the years I've owned it.  I didn't know I had it so good with the quality.  What I like about that edition is all the special features that come with the movies.  It is possible that the "Ultimate Edition" also has the same special features (I've never owned those), but the Blu Rays you buy now often include absolutely nothing besides the actual movie.

Hmm, I'm actually not sure, my UE for GE is the single-disc version.

But yeah, I have some of the UE two-discs, and there's tons of features there. I still need to crack into some of them.

The special editions are one disc, but they have these long featurettes with tons of interviews and stuff.  Some have other interviews or deep dives into music, stunts, or locations.  What makes them kinda special is a lot of people they interviewed are now dead (not in time for Broccoli though).  Maybe the UE has all that and more, I dunno.
