Used Cartridges: Not a Poll (requires typing) ;)

Recommended Posts

On the subject of cartridges, what WAS (past tense) your most highly prized and favored cartridge you now rarely or never use anymore?  Why?

Super Extended Basic (modified).  It had SuperXB, Disk Manager III and Editor Assembler all in one.

FG99 replaced it.

Extended BASIC 2.7 Suite was probably more prized in its time than any of my 80s carts in their time.  But I find I tend to just use FinalGROM, these days.  A lot of the XB 2.7 suite's programs are out of date, at this point.

Yep!  My favorite cartridge of all time WAS my dedicated 4A/DOS cartridge on an UberGROM that bypassed all the startup screens with a little help from @Tursi, then @jedimatt42 came out with his Force Command for the FinalGROM 99 and well, that was all she wrote.

Back in the late 80s, my most prized was Mechatronics XB II Plus.  I don't physically have one anymore.  It seems special, and rare, and full of potential. The same day I bought that, I bought the Mechatronics Gram Karte for my PEB... So generally none of my cartridges received use after that.

Extended Basic and Mini Memory.

Extended Basic gave access to sprites. It quickly presented issues with timing (collision detection and lack of speed (compared with other Basics)).

Mini Memory. This was a relatively cheap way to get around Basic and Extended Basic, and get to the speed of most of the other popular computers. Was fun for a while. 768 bytes was like a limit, unless you got rather advanced (which the other computers really didn't require). I even got the 32 Memory Expansion, but overall view demanded I'd move to the C64.

RXB 2015

FinalGROM replaced it.

RXB is still the only XB made that supports SAMS.

No assembly needed for support.

XB 2.8 is good but never had any SAMS support.

Tunnels of Doom.  Fond memories of exploring dungeons with brothers (and sometimes neighborhood kids) during the entire summer.  Rarely have time to play games these days but I still have my original ToD cart.

Extended BASIC for sure.

Less appealing these days but still amazingly powerful.

Extended BASIC on the FG99 with Force Command has given new life to BASIC for me.   Because now you can pop into and out of DOS as easily as with E/A5 programs.

I think it would have to be a game cartridge whose big fun has passed.  So.. Hunt The Wumpus or Amazing or MunchMan have declined the most from their peak!

I still use physical cartridges. Even FlashROM99 didn't make too much difference (it's handy for TI Workshop). I don't have a FG99.

The ones I always carry around are still XB, E/A, DM2, Mini Memory.

Ditto here, but added a supercart.

I don't have a fg but I do have fr.

I don't have supercart, fg or fr in physical form, but I'll manage.
