What in the world is that graphics keyboard thing? Is it simply an overlay for the keyboard? Sure doesnt look like it...

Looks like it might be an A400 overlay huh?

Sorry if this is something common... looked rare to my eyes.

To me it looks like the back side of the ... want to say Pilot quick guide?

But if a Atari 400 overlay, still cool, never seen one.

I vaguely recall that was an insert for the owners manual, so the two holes in the tabs are for keeping it in your 3-ring binder. The keys show the ATASCII control characters on the keyboard for reference.

Before I saw the comment about the holes, I was wondering if it was a decal kit.  I remember someone BitD that had little decals on the front of his 800's keys that showed the Control+key symbol.

But yeah, with the holes there, it looks like it goes into a 3-ring binder.

Hm! But that 2nd one is different, and has the tabs at the bottom, different than the first! This one could possibly stand up at the top of the 800 keyboard.

The tabs are in the same position, in the first photo the keyboard overlay is upside down.

I've seen the keyboard graphics before, I think as @Nezgar said, as an insert for the owner's manual. I've never seen a 400 keyboard overlay version though. I didn't know Microsoft BASIC was suppose to come with it either. I bought a used copy from a dealer back in the day, and just got the software and manual.

I'm more interested in the case

Snap, someone spent some money on that outfit. With or without the overlay I'd be snapping that up

Hah. Indeed. That's me commenting with reduced mental capacity when I should be asleep...

The keyboard template is inserted VERTICALLY on two slots available between the horizontal-section and the swinging-lid of the 800's top cover, so you can always have a visual / graphical representation of the special character set, while editing Basic, etc.

That set is within my physical reach, but I actually have most of it (including the special carrying-case, which comes with more padding than shown here).
