Zarlor Mercenary or Raiden?

Which do you think is the better game on the Lynx?

Like so many genres on the Lynx, vertical scrolling shooting games only have a couple of entries, but the ones the Lynx did get were excellent.

I think Zarlor takes it for me, although my old hand can no longer play it without Brenda's autofire.  I always used to use the wing cannons of XQ49, as they never appeared as a pick-up.

What a great idea - different characters each with their own permanent power-up.

The action isn't as fast as some games, but the screen is full of enemies and their shadows but doesn't suffer from slow-down.

I've only recently acquired Raiden, and it's a fantastic port.  Quite difficult compared to most versions of the game, since the ship's carrying the power-ups fire much more frequently.

I've played Zarlor to death over the years, so nowadays I play Raiden more.  I prefer Zarlor, but that's probably with a helping of rose-tinted specs.

Which do you prefer?

Oh, and hello.  I'm a new member, with about sixty games, so nowhere near many of the excellent collections on here, but getting there.

I love shmups, and the arcade version of Raiden is one of my favorite games ever.  I actually kinda hate the Lynx port because it's scaled down so much from the original, and it doesn't have music.

I've also barely put any time into Zarlor Mercenary.  I know it has a number of fans, and I'd like to play more of it.   The little that I've played didn't Wow me though.  It seemed like a lot of enemies were just thrown at me with little deliberate level design...just like Trevor McFur, which I really really despise.  :)

I guess all I can say is that I don't care much for either game. I do like Zaku somewhat.  Gates of Zendocon is alright, but it plays really slowly for a shmup.  I haven't found a shmup on the Lynx that I really loved, unless you consider Robotron 2084 a shmup.
