EEPROM naming convention

Mitch

Recommended Posts

I am trying to create a usable EEPROM file for the Jag diagnostic cart ROM but I am having problems finding what the correct naming convention is for it. I tried searching the forums but couldn't find anything. I am not sure if I just missed it or if the info hasn't been provided yet.

Thanks,

Mitch

Although one query, I first tried this one where I had the eerpom file with it's original name, shortened it to match the j64 file but leaving as .bin as well then also copied it to a .e2p file, this didn't work, just got the black screen when I launched the .j64

19/08/2019  19:26         2,097,152 jagdiag5394.j64
03/09/2020  19:43               128 jagdiageeprom.bin
03/09/2020  19:43               128 jagdiag5394.bin
01/01/2018  00:00               128 jagdiag5394.e2p

Then in a separate folder I had just the j64 and e2p file and that worked

01/01/2018  00:00               128 jagdiag5394.e2p
19/08/2019  19:26         2,097,152 jagdiag5394.j64

Could it be a quirk/feature ( ;) ) that having a third file name jagdiag5394 tripped it out? I can try it again last night just in case I was imagining things

I cant remember, but I have a feeling .bin is a runnable extension. Did it happen to load very quickly? You might find it was laoding and running the .bin file. Although I guess it should just show both files in that case with both extensions.

Yeah, not entirely sure. :)

Ok confirmed, so if you look at my 2 folders above,

One with 4 files, I select the .j64 file, it takes a few seconds to load, jag restarts, black screen for ever

One with 2 files it works fine and loads the diag software

So I don't think it's loading the bin fine as it takes a few seconds. I don't have a pc/card reader at home else I would try making a file with the same name of some other working rom but with .bin and see if that also stops it loading
