Suffolk
Anyone out there know of someone who knows how to fix vintage Epson printers? I have an LX-86, and all it will do is power up. I can't self test or select anything else. Thanks in advance.
Voxel
These are pretty reliable old machines and very well made. I've got a couple of similar models I'm going through too. The good thing is yours powers up! You'll want to open it up and take a peek inside to get your bearings. You'll see the parts are quite modular inside and everything connects up. Don't be afraid, you'll see the main board, the power board (I'll call it that) and the print mechanism, with the console (the button panel). You'll need to set aside a day, as it's your first one. Open it and give the parts a good cleaning as you go, dirt plays havoc on the mechanism so get rid of it. At this stage I'd be wanting to check everything is connected up correctly, so I'd unplug all the connectors inside one by one, cleaning them as I go. Then assemble and do a test and see how it responds. Good luck!
Voxel
I should have added, did you have a piece of paper cued up for printing, before turning on the printer with the Line Feed button pressed. Just asking as I don't know how familiar you are with this model. Here is the manual, click the link, then click the download button, then solve the captcha, then click get the manual and download the pdf. https://www.manualslib.com/e/epson+lx+86.html

Not many places carry it anymore, but can be ordered at Amazon and Staples.
