the easiest way is the amiga 4 player adaptor. gives you two atari ports from your pc parrallel port.

Yes, I had heard. I think that's great. But I'd hardly call something that doesn't exist yet as 'the easy way' for getting 2600 controllers connected to your pc (*ergo the title of this thread,)

 

And do you have to buy two seperate pieces to accomplish this (*) ?

Exactly what I need to build my Atari PC, a PC inside a Atari 2600 case, with working switches for the Power, Game Reset and Game Start.

Wouldn't the Stelladaptor work now? I guess 2/4 player through the above adapter & only 1/2 players through Stelladaptor, but how well do those things work? And how do they compare to USB adapter?
