Buyer upset I sent him an EXTRA GAME

Problems: I can't get a shipping label. I tried today, apparently eBay can't make one [for Canada I guess] and I don't have the shipping receipt to get the return label through Canada post. I said I would send him back the full amount of shipping via pay pal, I also spoke with eBay about this so it will all be on record.

I just bought a lot of 10 Mogul Maniacs on eBay. Actually the seller was local. The listing said something like 12x Mogul Maniacs and others.
The pictured showed ten MM carts and two Combat carts.

In my mind though in thought I was getting 12 MMs and 2 Combats. When the box was delivered I opened it up and stacked and counted the carts. I had 11 MMs and 2 Combats. I go to the listing about to send a message to the seller stating that they shorted me when I re-read the listing. I got exactly what I ordered plus a bonus MM cart that was missing and end label. I still sent the seller a message explaining what had happened in my mind and thanking them for the extra cart.

Some people just need something to complain about all the time.

This also happened to me recently here. I bought some weird PAL stuff from Stumpus . When I got the box there was a bonus PAL pirate cart of some kind that he tossed in. Was I pissed. No I was thrilled get a bonus item that I wasn’t even aware existed.

Yesterday, I spoke with an Ebay rep and they said to send back the 20 bucks he sent for shipping. I sent him a message and just asked him to acknowledge the deal before I sent his shipping. Nothing has come back.

I think the dude is trying to pull one over on me.

@groundtrooper That sounds like a normal response. Getting free stuff usually doesn't cause one to fly into a hissy fit, unless they are really REALLY spoiled. I would bet this is either a pro or one of those intolerable prince Joffrey types.

He sounds like serious collectors / antiques dealers I've dealt with on eBay.   I'm just a regular person selling excess stuff on ebay, I'll label the condition to the extent I understand it.   Those people are on another level and will act like you are trying to rip them off if you don't notice the things that only serious collectors/antiques specialists would notice.

But the fact that you labelled it as "Good", and eBay explicitly allows minor cracks in the case to be labelled "good", means they should have sided with you.  But the squeaky wheel gets the most grease, as they say...

On the few occasions when the condition of the item received didn't match the description or there was undisclosed flaw (like in this case), I reached out to the seller and asked for a partial refund (returning the item is a hassle for me). I've always been able to reach an amicable agreement (usually $3-$5 refund on $15-$30 items, I think) and I'd leave them positive feedback.

Best of luck, Captain ??. Some people feel so entitled to stuff smh.

This is clearly much more about the rip in the cover than the extra cartridge so the title of this thread is misleading at best. The rip was visible in the picture but it 100 percent should have been in writing in the description. I'm 99.9 percent sure those commenting in this thread would have done so if it was their listing. If the guy thought the weight of the extra cart caused the shipping to go up for some reason he could have directly said so (even though it didn't change the price of shipping and it was a kindness from the seller). I can see the buyer's perspective on this clearly though. He's got some extra cart he has no use for in place of a cover that isn't the condition he assumed as it wasn't listed as being damaged (assumed being the key word). While all buyers should look at the pictures carefully before buying at the same time it could be considered deceptive advertising not to note such a serious flaw in an expensive game. This whole thing didn't work out well for the seller or the buyer. Seller didn't advertise well enough and the buyer ended up being difficult. I'm not sure the buyer wouldn't have complained even if the auction was properly described and the seller opened himself up to this kinda blowback for not properly listing the damage in the auction description.

The buyer is definitely blowing this one out of proportion for sure -- I would have kept it and enjoyed the free game -- but Shawn makes a good point. It's almost always better to OVER describe your item than simply just describe it. You almost have to put yourself in the mind of a crazy buyer and think about what might be a problem and be sure to call it out. Then if someone does, you're covered by your description and/or photos. eBay almost always sides with the buyer, so you really have to be explicit in your listings. I've taken close-ups of the tiniest scratches before just to cover my ass. Live and learn I guess. Sorry you're out the shipping cost and the hassle though, what a pain in the butt.

No thats a fair point Shawn, I honestly didn't expect that but I'm new to this game and next time, I will absolutely be more descriptive.. Although, I've offered to return and refund the money. This guy has NOT gotten back to me in 3 days. I'm pretty sure he's trying to wait and see if he can get it for free under eBay's 3 day policy... or he's trying to flip it. I'm currently not out anything until ebay demands I return it. I need a communication from the buyer before I send any extra money his way though.  I think Roadrunner may have found something there though.

I don't think he's going to get his grease this time. I've made sure to contact ebay all week and shown them the texts I sent this person. I'll contact them again tomorrow and ask them to re-open the case and look at what is going on. This person hasn't gotten back to me despite quite a few attempts, that has to count for something.

That is starting to smell like the guy was trying to get free shit. :x  Now it's just the waiting game til the 30th. I hope it goes smooth

and you can be done with that asshole. Sure you didn't do a good job listing it so there is some blame on your end, but that guy seems

to be something else if all that you have reported back is accurate.

Found this. It didn’t jog my memory as to what exactly happened but I vaguely remember him taking an issue with some minor cosmetic issue... oh! I remember now. He bought my Bucky O’Hare for NES not a rare game but hard to find and kind of expensive. He has an issue with a cosmetic flaw that was clearly, crystal clearly pictured. Then tried to manipulate me for a partial refund which I balked at. I told him if he was displeased he could return the game for a refund, but I made him aware that the gameboard and both inside and outside if both sides of the cart were marked with invisible ink so if he tried anything funny like a cart swap or anything I would know. Then like 3 days later he tried to claim the game all of sudden didn’t work, when he pulled that I said I was no longer accepting returns from him and I would take my chances in a case with ebay and paypal.

Wow what a scumbag.  If you're already taking that one bit of feedback, take that image supplied of the conversation there with another seller who got taken for a ride by that ass.  They can check their records going back decades, so digging up this routine of his would take moments at best.

That said, I still more so agree with Shawn.  He's right, your description was basically bluntly put, crap, crap to the level you were asking for it from a dickless clown like that.  Sure you can see the rip, kind of, in that one first image, but even then it's not entirely clear.  It's also not an edge on shot that shows the true level of the rip and crumpling of the art cover sleeve or the plastic either.  Combine that with just calling it as you did with that weak minimalist one liner about it having no manual but good, was begging for being marked for attack by scum.

All that you would have needed to avoid this entirely was one added line saying a one sentence detail explaining the level of damage on the problem he called out, and adding that added image of it edge on to show it.  He'd have NOTHING to stand on, not even with ebay's loving will to screw sellers to keep buyers happy, would this have played out with him winning.  Sure he may have been able to piss about the cost on the shipping, but if you just keep records on what you paid to ship it vs what you charged, that covers that up too making the freebie truly not cost him anything.

I under-priced it a bit but I didn't really think it was that big of a deal, just some regular wear, that said, he won't respond to any messages.... but I will for sure take a 360 degree image for next time. I can see how if you are a collector or what have you, that might be an issue.

I had another buyer recently ask me to ship via letter mail without tracking. I said no, to which he responded by firing off some low ball offers. I declined them and didn't really think about it again. Then he just put the minimum bid on the item and won [which is listed 20 bucks less than the average for that item]. Then started complaining afterwards that I should ship it to him without tracking and that my 'relationship' with the postal worker could have got me a better deal... lol I don't know what it is with people on there.

It's stuff like this which keeps me from trying to sell stuff online. It just sounds like a headache, & it sounds like the marketplaces lean towards the purchasers. :(

To be fair, it usually goes smoothly for me.    Worst I had was when I shipped package and it got lost by the post office.  But apparently it was because the label was lost or damaged,  they were eventually able to track it down and deliver it to the buyer.

This is classic E-Bay. People purchase items without reviewing pictures or descriptions and then are upset when the item does not match their perception of what it should be. The tear is clearly seen on the pictures and not hidden at all. There is also a chip on the top corner case and a few other small issues, again which can be seen.

I will sit on both sides of the fence on this one, and a lot of good comments on the subject.  It looks to me that the guy is a collector who nit-picks to get free stuff, by hook or by crook.  Not explicitly detailing the tear was a common error on eBay, and he is trying to take advantage of that.  I am certain this is not his first rodeo, and I am certain there are plenty of transactions not listed in his feedback for the same.

It is not just a moral or ethical question, but also a question of self protection to make sure you detail all you can so you cannot fall victim as a seller.  I reckon he saw the inclusion of the extra game one of two ways: first to compensate for the tear, second as weakness of generosity.

I got nailed by a buyer on a Kali Linux laptop because he could not figure out how to load his unlicensed Windows on it.  eBay support was on my side in terms of demanding a return or refund, but it allowed his lying feedback to stand as "opinion."  I no longer leave positive feedback for buyers until a good week or so has passed to catch turds like him.

I also recently sold an AMD CPU.  The eBay system presented a product which matched what I had in all specs but the model number, which put it into a different socket.  This escaped me.  Additionally, the Post Office picked it up from my box on Saturday but did not process it until Monday, and of course it was slow getting there.  The guy was upset about the deal, but once I explained and offered him a full refund and to keep the CPU we had a pleasant exchange about electronics in general and we parted ways amicably.

eBay is a mixed bag dealing with people.

When it comes to ebay, and selling, I take, and post, more pictures of the ISSUES with an item than with the GOOD ASPECTS. Scratches, dings, dents, etc. I suggest you point them OUT pro-actively.

CC here seems like a good, honest guy. But if I had gotten that Phantasy Star, I'd have been kind pissed. It's that kind of photo that yes, does show the damage, but doesn't really do it justice, so as a buyer, I'd have to wonder if it was a "cover your butt" photo, or an honest "didn't think it was that big a deal" photo.

Also, NO mention of any damage in the description, and that's real damage, not shelf wear etc. Even with an iffy photo, I'd have backed CC if he pointed out the damage in the copy block.
