Looks like there are just 3 months to go until the deadline as of today, and the situation is just 4 formal entries submitted.

Is this in line with what happened in previous contests as well? 

 

How do my fellow participants feel about their progress and time left?

 

Anyone else considering joining? Would be nice to see more entries.

Most people like to work in the background, not exposing any part of their work ahead of time. There may be many reasons for that, same tends to happen in other type of competitions. IIRC last time I didn't expose my entry until very close upon the deadline. (*)

 

As for how it is going... personally I have kind-of adopted an older software sprite routine that I'm planning to use, but haven't fully plugged it in yet. Nowhere near a game yet, and to be honest I'm not sure when I'll find the time or energy to push to a playable state. If it happens, it happens. Otherwise I'll have to withdraw my entry, unfortunately.

Without having any type of programming contest participation on my side, either Inty related or otherwise...

 

I think certainly it is up to each participant to decide (or not) to work in the background and show up with their magnum opus on the last minute.

However, I wonder if such a strategy detracts from the overall engagement and visibility an event like this could otherwise drive. Not just for participants, but for the community.

 

Either way, I hope you are eventually able to finish your game, Carlsson. It looks like a fun concept.

Indeed, most of the games were announced 1 or 2 months before the deadline.

 

If we were to see a similar pattern this time, most entries would be announced Dec and Jan.

I suppose holidays will help folks wrap up their submissions.

As you can see, quite a few entries in the first competition that were started but never reached a state where those were submitted, and three entries (partially known before the competition) submitted without being announced within the competition.

 

While I've never really finished Alligator Swamp, if it hadn't been for a week's vacation in Spain in Sept/Oct 2015, that game never would have been near a playable state as well. I suppose I'm too slow (or have too many other interests and matters in life) for competitive development.

Just FYI, I'm planning an entry but nothing earth shattering. Just trying to make sure we have enough entries. I hope to make it official in the next week or so. Before Thanksgiving anyway. But in keeping with my skill level, it's a very simple game.

You gotta be kidding me! I’m certainly among the least proficient Intybasic coders around here.

If you remember, I started playing with Intybasic essentially last year.

I’m sure there will be stuff submitted soon that will blow my entry out of the water. And that will be a great thing!
