+davidcalgary29 #1 Posted July 31, 2003 I'm frustrated by the limitations (and bugginess) of PageStream and feel that there must be a better DtP for the STs. I haven't used Calamus before, but understand that a new version is about to be released. Can anyone advise on the userfriendliness/flexibility of this program? Inky #2 Posted August 1, 2003 I had calamus at one point. It's not the MOST user friendly thing out there, but it's pretty powerful.
TwiliteZoner #3 Posted August 1, 2003 Here is a link you might find helpful. http://www.myatari.net/issues/jan2002/sl2002.htm from the website: One can also buy it as a "Windows package", which comes with an Atari emulator included and behaves just like a PC program. And in my opinion it's light years ahead of Quark Xpress. The emulation is so perfectly integrated that it is sold as a "Lite" version at the on-line book shop "Amazon" as a page layout program for the PC. I've decided that the "SL" series might just be a little too advanced for my needs right now. I'm also not that great a fan of emulators; I'd like a program that I can run on my Mega STe. Inky #5 Posted August 1, 2003 I just downloaded the PC version of Calamus (It also includes the MAC and ST versions ) Yep, powerful and as user-unfriendly as ever. Still is a solid program though.

The point of Calamus is that it's extremely modular, and it needn't be any more DTP program than you require. Just have the modules you need. The code is TOS-based (though I believe other native versions are slowly developing), since PC and Mac can run this very quickly under emulation. Just choose the Atari version when you order. If you want something up to date, Calamus is pretty much the only choice for professional page layout (though there is the less advanced but DTP-like document processor, Papyrus, status unconfirmed - Papyrus X was meant to be shown at JagFest UK in June but didn't turn up). +Sauron #7 Posted August 2, 2003 Calamus 1.09N I think was a "lite" version of Calamus back in the day, and is a bit easier to use than SL. You may want to give that one a try...if you can find it.

Sikor #9 Posted August 22, 2003 If You have Graphics Card - SL is o.k. If not - onle 1.09N version is like for You, but, remember: 1.09N have not colour, not upgreat, etc... Official site of calamus is: calamus.net
krupkaj #10 Posted August 25, 2003 SL can work in monochrome resolution (even 640x400 but in that case you must swich to standard fileselector because the Calamus one is too big and don´t fit to screen). Graphics card isn´t compulsory. Anyway Calamus SL need a lot of RAM and powerful CPU. And IMHO I don´t think that Calamus is user unfriendly.
