Alice in the French computing revolution

Recommended Posts

I did a small feature of the early days of computing in France as a way to give context to the Alice. Enjoy!

Thanks for your work ! Didn't have any "Alice" machines in my collection (I'm french) but I know them for sure. Thomson was also very famous, especially for the "Informatique pour tous" plan in the 80's, in order to give access to computers in elementary schools.

Just seeing this now, and very much enjoyed the video.  Definitely enjoyed hearing more about Thomson's machines, which we never really saw in Ireland.

One side note: we had one of the few Minitel terminals that were sold in Ireland.  Want to say it lasted from about 1990 to 1992; not entirely certain what my parents did with it after that.  Ours was purchased, not rented - I remember at least that much.

Very cool.  I will have to sit down and watch it as the MC-10 in a fun little machine.
