I figured this is the best forum to try something like this. I've seen video game character tournaments on GameFaqs before, and there is the poll on AA's front page asking what the worst controller of all time is. So instead of asking broad questions like which controller is best or worst, why not let the controller battle it out like silly little pokemon to see who the real champ is.

 

The rules are simple, ill seed 16 controllers from classic and modern systems into a tournament braquet. The seeds will be a kindof "preseason ranking" but note that the matchups are more important than the seed, the seeds are not meant to favor one controller over another. There will be 8 first round matches, a quarter-finals, a semi-finals, and a final match to see which controller is king of the controller death match.

1 Playstation Dual Shock (1 & 2)

16 Atari 5200

 

8 Nintendo Entertainment System

9 Sega Saturn 3D pad / Sega Dreamcast (essentially the same design)

 

5 Sega Genesis (six button)

12 Colecovision

 

4 Super Nintendo Entertainment System

13 Atari 7800

 

3 Atari 2600 (CX40)

14 Nintendo 64

 

6 Micorsoft X-Box (S-type)

11 Sega Master System

 

7 Nintendo Gamecube

10 Atari Jaguar

 

2 Sega Saturn (Japan Style 6 Button)

15 Intellivision

 

So, for the first matchup will be...

 

1 - Sony Playstation Dual Shock

16 - Atari 5200

 

 

So all you have to do is vote for which one of these two you prefer. To place a vote, all you have to do is post your opinion (one vote per user). You can base your vote on whatever criteria you'd like, and feel free to debate or complain. Once there are a good number of votes, a few days have gone by, or there is a clear cut winner, a winner will be declared and I'll post the next match

Although I very much dislike the PSX controller, the 5200 controller is still slightly worse.

The PSX controller is by far the better of these two...the 5200 controller makes starving children cry.

Between the PlayStation Dual Shock and Atari 5200 controller, I'd vote for the Dual Shock.

Dual Shock is way better than that other one above. But if I was voting for best current controller, the PS controller would be dead last behind even the N64 and Genesis. Worst. Design. Ever.
