Tricked out 130XE - Almost done. Almost...

So, I took last two weeks off from work and since I finally had some free time, decided to work on what will become my daily set-up.

130XE with following upgrades all done by me:

- 512k SRAM from tf_hh

- Stereo dual pokey from tf_hh with push button mono/stereo

- 4in1 OS switch from Dropcheck with 2 push buttons to select each ROM.

I burned XL Boss OS, 1200XL v11 OS, XE/XL v2 and XE/XL v4 just to test out. Need to order some Eproms as the ones I have are not erasable.

Currently using Best Electronics A/V monitor cable to flatscreen TV. Sporting the FUJINET SIO and my newest addition is the XF551 I rcvd today.

Future plans are XF551 firmware update and some type of video upgrade, but super happy with results.

Yes I kept the shield and yes it took a long time to dremel out all the openings, but d@mn it looks cool.

I've got to say, I am really impressed with the job that you did on cutting the shielding.  It looks fantastic!  I took the easy way out on all of my mods and just lost the top shield altogether.  Very nice work!  :)

Very nice setup!  S-video?  And push buttons for the OS switches. That's something I haven't seen before.

Thanks! Currently, the A/V cable is composite. Need to buy or make a S-video out.

The plug on left is the 3.5mm stereo jack and mono/stereo switching (blue button)

Having some odd SIO issues w/FujiNet and XF551.

Going to remove the caps on the SIO pins. Seems to be hindering high speeds at certain times.

i think fujinet 1.3 is supposed to solve issues with high-speed

If they are not erasable then they are OTP or PROM, not EPROM.

You may want to consider EEPROM, they don't require UV exposure to erase.

Yup! Found a few places to get them (EEPROM). These were all I had at the moment, so I used for testing.

Here is a previous post of mine, where I show the locations of the specific caps to remove:

  • On all XE's remove C77/C78
  • On earlier XE's deslolder at minimum the PCB end of the ball of bodge caps that go to the SIO connector pins
  • On later XE's where the SIO caps were integrated into the motherboard, remove C303 and C304.

As can be seen, mine is the wonderful "blob" version and I will be removing all of them.

I will read up on the C77/C78 as well before removing those two. This is the first time I read about those two.

Oh, and lastly adding a pullup resistor to C78's location gives the cleanest transmit signal from the Atari, and allowed the fastest divisors 0,1,2 for me to a SIO2PC-USB even passing through a 1050 in my case.

Note: In that post I described it going to the right side of C79 in that linked post, but I meant C78 as pictured...
