Steven Pendleton
The 25th was the 30th anniversary of the release of Fatal Fury, so I decided to be terrible at Fatal Fury for the first time in a while, and yes, I did wear my Terry hat while I did it. Also Sakura Taisen is back. Kind of. Thunder Force is also back and I am now apparently terrible at both III and V due to lack of practice. IV is still a somewhat mindless no miss, fortunately. Saturn Hanagumi Taisen Columns - 10 Radiant Silvergun - 12 Thunder Force III - 10 Thunder Force IV - 40 Thunder Force V - 67 FC Akumajou Densetsu - 46 Neo Geo Fatal Fury - 20 G/MD Gaiares - 15 Slap Fight MD - 22 Sonic 3 & Knuckles - 105 Started a new save file, got to Hydrocity, wondered why I wasn't playing the Saturn version, kept going for a while, then remembered that I have a headphone jack, which is a pretty decent reason to not play the Saturn version, so I plugged my studio monitor headphones in and called it good. Everything was fine until I got stuck in a wall. Turned the game off since I didn't feel like restarting or waiting for 8 minutes and 7 seconds to time over. Not sure how I got here, but it happened. +neogeo1982
Lots of Lynx play this week. Zaku is super hard to get a high score picture snapped with before game over comes up. carlsson
Atari 8-bit: Mega Blaster - 3 min. MegaGun - 4 min. MegaMania - 14 min. Megalegs - 2 min. Megamaze - 3 min. Megaoids - 20 min. Yes, another themed HSC round. Ironically the game I spent the most time on is one you can't lose unless you eventually give up.
Kurt_Woloch
Here are my times for this week (November 22nd through 28th) on classic systems... Arcade: Scrambled Egg - 27 min. Atari 2600: Omicron 2K - 8 min. I've played a bit more of Scrambled Egg this week but didn't make any progress there. Then I replayed Omicron 2K because from what I remembered it might have something to do with the Corona virus variant which got that name just yesterday. In fact, if you look up the game at the Atariage store, the background story of Omicron is about a mutating virus you have to stop, except that in the game, your ship is called Omicron while in real life that is now the name of the virus variant. But the similarities are there so you can almost ask yourself: "Did they see it coming when they made the game"? BurritoBeans
PC-9801 Love Escalator - 45 minutes Ys - 120 minutes Ys II - 40 minutes YU-NO - 80 minutes Well, all PC-9801 this week featuring some messy desk photos! First up for the week, and the physical game I've been enjoying the most, is YU-NO. I really don't have a ton to say that I haven't said before, the graphics are beautiful/the script is nice/the soundtrack is amazing, but I did find one neat thing out: There is an English translation being made! It isn't quite finished yet, as-of the day I'm posting this the Epilogue still needs work, but I'm going to be giving it a shot next week to see how it is. I broke out the first two Ys games, beating Ys I and just starting Ys II, and man has it been some time. No I don't have actual copies yet, if I'm being honest Popful Mail is probably going to be the first Falcom game I buy physically as I loved playing it on my 9801UV, but I do plan on getting them in the future. I haven't actually touched the old versions of these in a while, mostly playing via the Ys I & II Chronicles version on Steam which is quite awesome if I say so myself, so I did have a bit of adjusting to do. The "just bump into things" combat always gets a kick out of me, I guess I'm just amazed it still feels okay to this day. And then finally, one of the last games made for the system, Love Escalator. It's quite impressive if I say so myself, there's some really smooth animation in here, but it is pretty much just restricted to the adult content. I was surprised the thing installed as well as it did, I've played it by just dragging the files onto my CF card before but never using the actual CD-ROM, and it turns out I just got lucky. Usually PC-9821As/Ap models are associated with crappy proprietary NEC drives with tons of failures, people say to expect them to not work, but I guess my As3 uses a standard ATAPI interface instead of the NEC-proprietary interface which bogs down the As/Ap/As2/Ap2 models. It's looking like next week is going to be more of the same, no boxes are coming in for a bit with games, but the X68000 repairs should be winding up by Friday. The week after should bring me about six more games and two bits of Famicom hardware to play with. It's looking like December will be a nice wrap to the year for me when it comes to gaming!

Pro-Am for NES - 50 minutes Wizardry: Proving Grounds of the Mad Overlord for NES - 36 minutes Zelda II: The Adventure of Link for NES - 188 minutes Progress: Dr. Mario - cleared all levels from the beginning thru 20 on slow without losing then quit to go to bed. Ice Hockey - won the game (USA vs Sweden with default players) King's Field (Japanese) - finished the game Kirby's Adventure - completed the normal mode from start to finish and found all the secret switches. R.C. Pro-Am - played through track 26 before quitting. Used save states to give myself extra chances at clearing each track when necessary. Wizardry - started a file and gained a few levels for the default characters Zelda II - played through the whole game

+jgkspsx
Oh shoot, where do I start… I played a lot of video games this week. Sorry for the deluge, @carlsson! Atari 2600 Centipede - 10 minutes. Been on a huge multi-system Centipede kick lately. Crystal Castles - 20 minutes for an Evercade group HSC. Aquaventure - 60 minutes between the Evercade and VCS. The VCS joystick is not a good fit for this, sadly. Galaxian - 120 minutes of abject mediocrity for the HSC. Asteroids - 240+ minutes and all I have to show for it is a deep well of sadness and regret. Gravitar - 25 minutes. I just can’t do this level. Yar’s Return - 15 minutes. I like it better than I did at first, but it still plays weird. Microvision Blockbuster - 60 minutes with my nifty new backlit screen! Connect Four - 25 minutes. Finally won a game! Super Blockbuster - 20 minutes. I dunno, I’m not sure this is really better than regular Blockbuster… Lynx Centipede (Songbird Version) - 240+ minutes. Hit my stride again just in time for Thanksgiving to prevent me from playing it more. Critter Championship - 65 minutes. I really hope I keep the #1 spot in Canyons. I’ve never been a high score board default before. Game Gear Ax Battler - 45 minutes. It could have been so much better than this. Yu Yu Hakusho Horobishi Mono no Gyakushuu - 35 minutes. Pretty cool brawler with frustrating first person level bosses. Got quite far. Atari 7800 Planet Smashers - 20 minutes. It is not perhaps as good as Plutos or Sirius, but it’s not THAT bad. Sirius - 25 minutes. Great fun on my real console, plays like crap in my emulator. NES/Famicom Jackal - 25 minutes. Damn fun game. Cosmic Epsilon - 25 minutes. Holy super scalers, Batman, what a splendid looking game! It plays great too. Flying Hero - 35 minutes. I could not stop playing this. I don’t know why more homebrewers don’t clone this - it is simple and amazing fun! Star Soldier - 15 minutes. I still don’t really like this, but I couldn’t pass it up for a dollar. Hector ‘87 - 10 minutes. I couldn’t pass this up for a dollar… but I probably should have. It reminds me of the Darwin games in its unpleasantness and feeling of powerlessness. Wai Wai World - 20 minutes. Very fun game. Deserves more than being shot down the memory hole. Thexder - 15 minutes. This looks better than the Color Computer port based on my fallible memories, but not by a whole lot. SNES/SFC Twinbee Rainbow Bell Adventure - 25 minutes. Awesome Sonic clone with its own thing going on. Addams Family Values - 75 minutes. This game is markedly improved by save states. Genesis Viewpoint - 75 minutes. Got pretty far before giving up. Thank goodness for unlimited continues. Better than its reputation suggests. Magic Girl - 75 minutes. Although it looks great and the music is kind of appealing, this is an unfun slog through incessant enemy collisions and pot shots. It’s not hard, it’s just depressing. If you got decent powerups more than once a game, it would be a cakewalk, but it would be a lot more fun too. Reminder to developers: if your game has a score you MUST show it on screen for a good long time after game over, and you should really add a scoreboard.
Skippy B. Coyote
In spite of my best efforts to continue my playthrough of Pokémon Yellow (which I'm now reluctantly accepting as a Game Boy game rather than a Game Boy Color game for tracker purposes) I ended up pretty much living on my Switch this week On account of all the Black Friday sales I ended up finally picking up the remake of The Legend of Zelda: Link's Awakening as a physical copy for $40 from Target, then nabbed Metro 2033 Redux, Metro: Last Light Redux, and Project Warlock on the Switch eShop for $7.50 each. The first game I played was the Link's Awakening remake, and I ended up playing all the way through it with near 100% completion in about 18 hours. The original Link's Awakening on the Game Boy used to be my all time favorite Zelda game, but having now played all the way through the remake I gotta say I think it's just plain better in every way; which is a hard thing to admit on account of all the nostalgia I have for the Game Boy original and the colorized DX port for the Game Boy Color. The world just feels so much more open and cohesive in the Switch remake, there's tons more stuff to collect in the Trendy Game shop, the fishing mini game has been nicely expanded on with new fish to collect and different lures to choose from, and I absolutely love the plastic toy aesthetic of the remake's visuals. The controls have been pleasantly overhauled too so you always have your sword and shield equipped and you no longer have to equip the power bracelet or pegasus boots to use them. It's just a wonderful game all around and I don't think there's a single bad thing I could say about it. This is my new favorite Zelda game Next up checked out Odallus: The Dark Call, which for the sake of brevity I'll just say is a really cool game that will definitely appeal to any fan of the classic NES Castlevania games. It's a tough game, but a darn fun one! I also finished my umpteenth playthrough of Alien: Isolation this week, then got started in on Metro 2033 Redux. I'm really enjoying it so far, the story is pretty captivating and the combat is fast, frenetic, and pretty darn scary at times. It's a cool game and I'm looking forward to seeing where the story goes! I think that about covers everything for this week, so until next time, best wishes and happy gaming to you and yours. And a belated happy Thanksgiving to the rest of you folks in the US! carlsson
Here's the summary for Week 47, running from Nov 22 - 28. We logged (at least) 5306 minutes of eligible play, playing 103 games on a total of 20 systems. Top 10: 1. Asteroids (Atari 2600) - 349 min. (#7) 2. Centipede (Songbird edition) (Atari Lynx) - 330 min. (#5) 3. Galaxian (Atari 2600) - 282 min. (#6) 4. Soldier Blade (TG-16/PC Engine) - 225 min. 5. Cyber Virus (Atari Lynx) - 200 min. 6. Zelda II: The Adventure of Link (NES/Famicom) - 188 min. 7. Critter Championship (Atari Lynx) - 185 min. 8. Wyvern Tales (Atari Lynx) - 120 min. 8. Ys I: Ancient Ys Vanished (NEC PC-9801) - 120 min. 10. Kirby's Adventure (NES/Famicom) - 107 min. Pre-NES top 10: 1. Asteroids (Atari 2600) - 349 min. (PN#4) 2. Galaxian (Atari 2600) - 282 min. (PN#3) 3. Fantastic Voyage (Atari 2600) - 80 min. 4. Double Dragon (Atari 7800) - 78 min. 5. Cosmic Defender (Atari 8-bit) - 77 min. 6. Aquaventure (Atari 2600) - 60 min. 6. Blockbuster (Microvision) - 60 min. 8. Solar Fox (Atari 2600) - 58 min. (PN#7) 9. Kaboom! (Atari 2600) - 40 min. 10. GORF (ColecoVision) - 30 min. 10. Ms. Pac-Man (Atari 7800) - 30 min. Top 10 systems: 1. Atari Lynx (1155) (#4) 2. Atari 2600 (970) (#1) 3. NES/Famicom (880) (#8) 4. TG-16/PC Engine (440) 5. Genesis (297) 6. NEC PC-9801 (285) 7. Atari Jaguar (155) (#6) 8. Atari 7800 (153) (#2) 9. Sega Saturn (139) 10. TG-CD/PC Engine CD (125) Three classic Atari titles - Asteroids, Centipede and Galaxian - battle out for the title this week with only 19 minutes between Asteroids on the 2600 and Centipede on the Lynx. It means that Asteroids also is he most played pre-NES game on a list with a big gap between #2 and #3. Likewise the challenge for the most played system is a two way Atari affair where the Lynx for once not only is the most played handheld but most played overall. Two games enter the 1000 Minute Club: #468 Soldier Blade (TG-16/PC Engine) - 1154 min. #469 Wyvern Tales (Atari Lynx) - 1023 min. Wyvern Tales is the second Lynx game to enter this club after Shanghai (2411 min) back in 2019. Finally, on the all-time stats, Galaxian (Atari 2600) moves into 5th place, bypassing Christmas Carol (Intellivision). Now that Christmas season is coming, perhaps Carol will get a bounce back up in the stats? 1

carlsson
Yeah, the tracker is not like your stereotypical list of "most popular games" which of course is what makes it extra fun. Those playing the most mainstream games every now and then probably don't bother keeping track about which games they played and for how long, but those more eccentric like us will make sure that the raw stats once the numbers are crunched tell their own story.
