How was turned on the videopac g7000?

Recommended Posts

Presumably by plugging and unplugging the PSU, either from the unit itself or the power outlet.

Yes, without the cartridge the console does not power on. However I think a fair number of people have modified their G7000 or the power cable close to where it connects with some sort of power switch, to avoid partial insertion of a cartridge to trigger power on or off.

Interisting. Philips modified the console for each market.

It seems to me that the Philips unit in each region of the globe was free to make the necessary decisions about the change in consoles.

Perhaps hardware changes were due to different regulations? It makes me wonder how e.g. the Timex Sinclair 1000 works in the US, if it requires pulling the power cable just like on the ZX-81 (and ZX Spectrum) to cycle power, and if the subsequent US models TS-1500 and TS-2068 have proper power switches. Something similar might be going on here, that European regulations allowed systems to be powered on only by pulling the cable or a dead man's grip like inserting a cartridge, while on other markets a separate power button was required in order to sell it. This is just speculation from my part, but stranger things have happened in the history of products.
