MrFister's Flashback X Deluxe USA NTSC Complete Pack (422 Games)

Recommended Posts

I would like to share my Flashback X Deluxe USA NTSC Complete Pack (422 Games) setup with everybody!

There are a total of 422 retail USA NTSC games with cover art!  No homebrew, mods, or hacks here!

The all-games.ini is complete and clean.  I worked on this for 2 weeks getting information for each game personally.

Everything is accurate as possibly can be as far as I can tell.

But if you notice something wrong with any of this, please let me know so I can get this 100% accurate eventually if it isn't already.

MrFister, If its okay with you, your pack looks solid. I'm just going to port the who thing over to its own category on the new set up.

Then I have to go through and just remove the 422 real games from my pack to build the HB category.

i noticed that some of the XXX games are missing from the set. are they not real releases, or clones? I thought maybe they were double ender carts like the chuck norris game.

I feel like 80's Brad and RocketFan did all the hard work. I'm just doing the tedious, boring stuff and junk.

The so-called “sex video games” for the Atari 2600 aren’t very good, and some are offensive for other reasons like the goal of raping a Native American woman.

You can safely ignore them.

I will be the judge of what I decide to use and not use, but thank you for your 1 sided insight!

you had asked for feedback, and I'm no atari expert... um.. bachlerette party, lady in waiting, westward ho, general re-treat, philly flasher, cathouse blues, etc. you can see on the box art of some of the retail games it list those as a "2-in-one game".

and I'm still not entirely sure how Party Mix works? is it three carts in one box? there are 3 different roms, right?

I will look those up and add them if they are indeed retail.

As far as Party Mix is concerned, I didn't try that game to see if it worked.  But I do know it is a supercharger cassette game and needs the unit. Other than that I am not sure.

ThanX for the heads up on what is missing!

Edit*

I took a look and Westward Ho General Retreat is a PAL formatted Europe game and which my list is NTSC USA retail.

I am working on a world retail (English Only) pack which is not yet finished which those are added.

I did however miss Cathouse blues and Philly Flasher from the NTSC USA Pack!  I will def add those.

Cool! Yeah, like I said, I'm no expert. Just noticed them, I was trying to get the Homebrew set down due to load time on the new set up and moved them. The sets could def be broke down further to "clones", "Pal", "Imports", etc. but I get lost there are so many. Thanks again for your help. LOL, sorry for drawing all the heat on this thread by bringing them up. Ha Ha. I just wanted a smaller Homebrew section, lmmfao, could care less about Custer's Revenge, hahahhaha.

I wasnt thinking NTSC, sorry, just real and homebrew. Your pack takes about 4 secs to load with the new carousel~folders set up. homebrew section takes about 9 secs, and its only about ~100 games more. thats how this all started lol.

And, I didn't change any of your naming conventions on the new pack, you can bring over your ini file from this pack and everything will work. I did change Artillery Duel and Alpha Beam w/ Ernie's Box art though. Feel free to use anything I put out there to create and release your own packs, You did a damn good job.

Also I am in the midst of updating this pack as we speak.

I Fixed numerous covers to the retail box art.

Fixed a lot of bad cover art.

Also it fixes all double ended games for each game has it's own cover.

Also in the next release will have a complete set of bezels to match each game.

You can download this or wait another day or two for the updated version.

do these core settings work?! Thats pretty cool.

stella_crop_hoverscan=disabled
stella_ntsc_aspect=par
stella_pal_aspect=par
stella_palette=standard
stella_console=ntsc
stella_stereo=off
stella_phosphor=auto

also, didnt Rocketfan say something about a default bezel "dbezel.png" that goes in the emulator folder?

finally, what happens if you go into options and pick one of the 4 default bezels? does it break everything?

Super cool stuff buddy! a lot of work went into this!

I haven't messed with those settings to see if they work or not to be honest.

Yes, the default bezel "dbezel.png" should be in the emulator folder.  It supplies a default bezel if one is not provided for a game.

It does break the game bezels If you do pick a bezel from the default ones, you would have to replace the path in retroplayer_ro.ini file in the emulator folder and the retroplayer.ini inside of the rom/data folder with this "BezelPath=/tmp/cbezel.png".  Currently looking for a way to disable the original bezels, or a way we can switch back and forth effortlessly.

I still forgot the 2 xxx games you mentioned that were missing "Cathouse Blues" and "Philly Flasher".  I am working on the covers and bezels for those right now.

I had to find a tv frame that was the right size for the console aspect ratio and replace what was the original one that would look right.  What a pain in the ass all those! lol

I re-mastered most of the covers too to reflect more accuracy!

 I may also wanna do bezels for other sets in Nexus perhaps?

I hope people can find some use for this.

Ok cool, I havent messed with any of this and trying to catch up.

So.. you don't need a default bezel if every game actually has one, is what I'm picking up.

Thats kind of what I meant by "break" concerning the file path. Thats why I havent meesed with it, I figure someone is going to pick a bezel on options and its going to stop working. Also figure they wont know how to fix the path.

For custom bezels, I start with a default one as a layer so I know exactly where the screen will be. The default bezels are pretty accurate as far as display area. otherwise 1280x720 IIRC. Also, Atari Vault has some pretty neat bezels, and in A.T.A.R.I. v1.0's "light fiver" theme is where I stashed all the old bezels. If you wanted to see them.

Cool stuff, man. Thanks for sharing.

That is really nice.  I love it!  Your work is really appreciated.

Of course, the first thing I did was built it into Draxxon's Nexus 5.0 setup on my drive as the a2600 ROM folder.  ?

@Draxxon, if you are worried about someone breaking it by picking a bezel there are a couple ways you could deal with it:

1) Create a copy of the /res folder in the rom folder which is populated with bezels.  Delete the bezel images from the res folder - so it would be pretty unlikely for someone to pick one from a bunch of blank spaces.  Or maybe you can delete the other bezel related controls like the checkmark symbol and prevent selection at all (?) - would take some experiments to see if that type of approach works.

2)  We could make a make a "restore custom bezel setting" command - like the "clear recent" command. That would be fairly easy.  Then if someone screws it up, they could restore it without having to hand edit a file.

BTW, those extra core settings apply to Stell6.1 only , not the older Stella 3.9./Stella2014.

If you guys want to add anything to the NEXUS its okay with me. If its new bezels for other folders or its updating the a2600 folder with this, it's fine. I imagine you guys won't want to keep adding back this pack into the NEXUS with each future release. My goal isn't to absorb every project, but I have no problem letting you two add anything you want to it at all. Keep projects separate and individual is fine too, whatever you feel is best. You would loose 3D boxes if it was a straight up swap, and there are a few "World" release titles that would have nowhere to go. Notably the 3 unique sears games, I think there are two PAL only red box games, etc.

As far as the "breaking" aspect, yes, that's why I haven't messed with bezels. I like the idea of a bezel restore switch in each folder. But as far as UI elements, you could remove the bezel thumbs, the rectangle selector, the check mark, but it will still say "bezel" on the screen, and you could still surely pick one blindly even w/o images. the page numbers "< 1 & 2 >" will also show, if you remove them, you'll remove them on every BG screen. I'm a fan of the switches approach.

Yeah, OK - your points are totally valid, and I can attest to it, because I played with that a little.  I'll work on a command.  Anyway, if someone only ever wanted a single bezel or no bezel - some folks really dislike having any bezel - then they could use the original switch to easily override the custom ones.

I also realized last night that I have the bezels, but screwed up the Nexus box art.  ?  The box image resolution thing is an aspect of that too, and the whole Nexus/LFB thing!  I was planning to just copy over your box art files - but you are saying I also lost a few games...  I wasn't planning to release anything to the wild, BTW - just I really do like the bezels, I played half a dozen 2600 games I never touched before just to see what the bezel would look like!!

Yes, when i cut the other needless folders, I had to move the games somewhere. The NTSC pack is sweet, but there are other unique retail games that are PAL, imports, Sears, etc., they had nowhere to go. :(

I remembered the 3d vs 2d boxes, but forgot all about the box sizes. The Nexus is stuck with OG AFBX/LFB sizes because we have just come too far to go back and change it again. Remember, original images were jacked up and AtGames never fixed it until the mysterious updates that are now gone. Smaller boxes, yes, but whenever we get around to releasing the LFB Ultimate pack, you all will be glad they are the smaller sizes and compatible so you can just drop them in.

Well I figured out how party mix works...

Vol. 1 has just 1 game which is  "Bop a Buggy".

Vol. 2 has 2 games which are "Tug of War" and "Wizard's Keep".

Vol. 3 has 2 games which are "Down on the Line" and "Hand Car".

In order to change the games on vol. 2 and 3, you have to use the select button either on the afb controller or the console.

The original complete rom with all 5 games will not work correctly as you cannot switch games, thats why they were split up.

But I wish they were split up into 5 different roms though.  Not entirely sure that is feasible with how they were made according to this thread HERE.

But anyways, now I can change the titles and game info to match instead of being just a default game info.
