+RangerG #1 Posted August 6, 2003 I just got the Sega Smash pack for my Gameboy Advance. I got it for Golden Axe and I was not disappointed. I love this type of game. I can pick it up and mindlessly hack and slash my way around and not worry about complicated battle systems or building characters, etc. I was trying to think of other games in this genre that I would enjoy. I thought of Gauntlet Dark Legacy and Super Ghosts and Goblins. What do you think about these? Any other suggestions (doesn't need to be dungeon themed - although that is best . I read a review at the video critic and he liked the new Pirates of the Caribbean game (anyone else try this yet)?
NE146 #2 Posted August 6, 2003 Are you talking about ONLY GBA? If not, there are a ton of similar themed games.. right off the top of my head there's Alien Storm (arcade & Genesis) which is basically Golden Axe with a sci-fi theme. And like I said.. there are a ton more of "walk to the right and hack/slash/beat-em-up" games. By the way.. Super Ghouls and Ghosts is NOT that type of game. If you're talking GBA, you might want to check out stuff like Final Fight One
Ze_ro #3 Posted August 6, 2003 I haven't played Gauntlet Dark Legacy on the GBA (Frankly, the graphics on the back of the box look terrible... is the game really that bad looking?), but I own Super Ghouls 'n' Ghosts, and I have to say that the game is HARD. I've played lots of hard games before, but this is the kind of game that screws your sister and gives you the finger. If you have the patience for a game like this, then you might like it... otherwise you'll get frustrated really fast. Everything else about the game is quite nice, and nostalgic enough (although the double jumping is a bad addition in my opinion). I also own Final Fight (I bought it new from Superstore for only $5... I have no idea why it was so cheap), and it's great! It's a very faithful translation of the arcade game, and even has a few secrets to find. However, I believe that it's actually a port of the SNES version instead of the arcade version, so expect a few differences (no female characters, altered item placement, etc). I'd also like to plug Ninja Five-O. It sounds stupid, but ignore the name, and try the game in an emulator... it's an excellent platform game that somehow merges Shinobi, Ninja Gaiden and Bionic Commando into one game. Konami somehow managed to release this game without letting anyone know about it, but it's possibly the best 2D side scroller on the GBA. --Zero
+RangerG #4 Posted August 6, 2003 Thanks NE146 and Zero for the suggestions. I think I will check out Final Fight and Ninja Five-O. I enjoy playing games like Black Belt and Captain Silver on the SMS and I wanted some side scrollers like this for my GBA. These games are both relaxing and take out aggression at the same time -- great after work for mindless fun! I also think I'll pass on Gauntlet DL. The arcade game is great, but the reviews for the GB version are not good. Anyone play it?? Take care, RG
