Lock n Chase-18340

Well...

I left myself room for improvement!!!

:P

First shot on disc speed, subsequent attempts haven't gone so well, so I guess I'll be starting low!

I don't do points that well, but can usually pick up something with pattern play eventually, but the baddies here really try to thwart your plans.

Not an expert in this game, but I know there were 3 versions: 4K, 6K, 8K.
Which one are we supposed to play? does it matter? I heard the 6K handles better than the 4K one, is that true?

I wasn't even aware there were 3 different versions.  Do they play any differently when starting by pressing "disc"?

Found this topic here... worth reading on version differences.

That is very interesting.  I would suspect that most of us have the original 4k version, with crappy controls.  I don't think we would limit anyone to a particular version, but that's up to our esteemed hosts Jacob and Rick.

I never even knew there were other versions, lol. Play whatcha got guys... ??

I've got a couple Lock 'N' Chase carts, but only one of them works soooooo that's the one I'm playing or I could try it out on my emulator... Hmmmmm ?

Seriously though I would suspect I have the harder to control one cuz I played it yesterday and it was MISERABLE!!! Almost as bad as the game that shall remain NAMELESS (rhymes with House Slap) Hahahahahaha I didn't say it Biffman... ?

I suppose the ability to stop the character by pressing against a wall (4K version) or not (6K) is consequential.

cparsley is the current record holder. On that topic I shared, notice that he mentions a preference for the 4K version because he likes to stop at long tunnels.

I did read that.  So the 4k version seems preferable then.

The rom that's on all the retail cartridges is 6k.  The updated prototype rom is 8k; I don't think there's any control improvement with it either.  I don't think there's a 4k lnc rom.  There might be a third version created for competition like they did for Astrosmash.  I thought I saw it somewhere.

So after playing Lock and Chase for a little bit I think we should change the theme of this seasons games from 'Variety Games' to 'Games that are frustrating as HELL' ?

The controls on Lock and Chase are simply DREADFUL!!!! And what's with the closed doors every time the $ sign shows up???? Grrrrrrrrrrrrr ?

Last time I got into this game, maybe a year ago, i remember it helps to try to have at least one move planned in advance so you can press the control disc well before the turn comes up. I'm not very good, though. Once the pace picks up it becomes difficult for me to keep up. Also, I tend not to use the ability to lock doors very strategically.
