By the way, if you'd like to dial in to the Darkforce! BBS, there are multiple numbers you can now call:

When you reach the user and password prompt type "darkforce" for both.   Then will access the Darkforce! BBS.   Numbers to use in the link above.

I haven't called a BBS since the 90s. Do you have Usurper, Trade Wars 2002, and LoRD on there?

Call one of those numbers, use the word "prison" for the name and password, goes to a BBS with LORD, a Trade Wars server, and I'm pretty sure Usurper and a few other dozen games.

IIRC, he's running the BBS on an Atari ST, so probably not.

They have this dungeon crawl game that I really like.   Actually some unique BBS games, being Atari ST, that you don't see anywhere else.

Wish I still had my Commodore PET to dial into the BBS with... I have to use an emulator!

Now that would be cool.   I had a Commodore SX=64 for a while.  Wanted to BBS on it, but I'm pretty much an Atari user.  Need to get my Atari 400 back on the BBSs.

I actually dialed into a few BBSes on my PET. However, it being a 40 column machine, it isn't exactly excellent as a BBS machine. It's still better than the Tandy 200 laptop I used before I had the PET though. Once I have the Super Serial Card for my //e, I plan on using that as my main BBS machine, unless I want those colorful ANSI graphics in which case I'll use one of my DOS machines.

I always wanted to get an acoustic coupler so I could use an actual phone to dial into BBSes. I have a few direct connect modems but don't have a landline.

I have no experience with Atari computers. Do they use the SIO port for serial?

BBS'd on a Tandy 100 for several years.   Granted only a few times with the what... 40x20 screen?   Most of the times it was on a 80x24 screen on the docking station.  :D   Ascii, no Ansi, but still worked great.

Atari ST has a serial port, pretty standard stuff.  Good Ansi, 80x24.   Most term programs have like 4 to 16 color.

Atari 8-bit you most of the time used the SIO to a serial interface and from that to the modem.   Worked pretty good.  Was a strong 40 column machine, but various term programs made 80 column possible with increasing better ANSI and color over the years using various tricks.   One fun thing on one term program... activating macros with a joystick!   Great when playing online games with North, south, East, and west... and attack!  :D   You could program the joystick macros to whatever.  (This was Bobterm for those wondering.)

40x8 on a 100, 40x16 on a 200. Musta been nice, having an 80x24 screen. Difficult to implement ANSI when you have a literal black and white with no grayscale LCD.

I really need to start BBSing with my C128 though.

Sorry I'm late replying to this - missed it somehow.

We've got several classic games on the BBS. The ones you mentioned are mostly PC games.

Not many people play these days but the most popular titles are:

AFL Football

Assassin

Dungeons & Dragons ST

Final Frontier II

Reanimator II

The Thieves Guild

Plus more...

I forgot my login to Darkforce from like 5 years ago, when work wasn't that busy....   I played DDST on your site for a bit and it was some fantastic nostalgia!

Back in the real BBS days I got all the way through.  It must have taken months with the number of turns and dial-up.  And all that done on a CoCo 3 - ANSI didn't work, but VT100 did.

Is Space Empire Elite on there?  I don't remember if I played that on yours or not.

Honestly, I'm a bit surprised by the response to this.

As in very little...

I checked it out on Evil-Bay and it's actually selling for

a considerable price:

https://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_trksid=p2380057.m570.l1313&_nkw=atari+jaguar+another+world&_sacat=0

I was planning on logging in next month as I already own this game and as I won a few months ago I want to let someone else have a shot. (I'm also surprised it hasn't had any interest.)

Maybe its the "Sorry your security level is not high enough" that is causing people not to enter? (which is what I get)

Was this your first call?

First time callers go through a (pretty much) automatic vetting process.

I believe on your 2nd call and up you'll be allowed. Also, I logon daily as

SysOp and I check for new callers and verify them, bypassing the 2 call

limit.

This is to keep people who like to call in 1 time, see how much mischief

they can get in to and never call back.... It's unfortunate but true. It's]

also why message are not allowed to be posted on a first call...

Rather a lot like some Atari forums, eh?   :)

PS I changed the post about the prize to inform everyone about this...
