NE555 #1 Posted February 5, 2021 I pulled out my second 1050 drive I had in storage and I am getting Error 173 (Bad Sectors at Format Time) when trying to format a disk (I've tried multiple disks), and Error 144 (Device Done Error). The drive boots and reads directories OK. The drive speed is 287. I have cleaned the heads. What else can I try?
+Nezgar #2 Posted February 5, 2021 Can it write sectors? If it fails writing sectors, do the written sectors get erased or corrupted? Do the disks that you try to format actually get erased at all?
NE555 #3 Posted February 5, 2021 When I try formatting the head doesn't move. If I try writing the heads move.

Formatting and failing without head moving should then result in at least track 0 being blanked. (sectors 1 through 18 on SD 26 on ED) Sounds like the erase function is not working. There was an earlier thread with someone with a similar problem and fixed it - ill look for it.
+Nezgar #5 Posted February 5, 2021 Here it is... in this prior case replacing U21 (3086) resolved, but theres lots of other related potential components to look at and try swapping from a working drive.

Thanks! I'll check it out.
