reverendshoebox
Hello! I've got a 2600 Jr. that comes on with either a completely black screen or a scrolling bit of video (image attached.) If I let it run for more than a few seconds, the RIOT starts getting really hot. Recommendations on where to start? Is the RIOT the likely culprit? Thanks muchly, people! -=ShoEboX=-
+DrVenkman
Just to be sure, you’re testing with a known-good cart, right? If so, yeah start with RIOT. They shouldn’t get hot. No chip inside a VCS/2600 model should get really hot. Your Junior is probable fully soldered so replacing it will require desoldering the chip. Not something most amateurs are comfortable with, but assuming you have the skill and tools required, remove the chip, install a socket and a new 6532. If that doesn’t fix things, repeat with the 6507 and TIA if necessary.
