Atari Klax - 7800

Recommended Posts

Hey yall - I'm new here and looking for a little help.  I found this on ebay and am interested in adding it to my collection!  From the research that I've done, it looks to be pretty rare!  Can you guys/gals tell me if I'm wrong on this?  The seller also has a Sentinel on there as well.  Both have marketing material and manuals.  It looks like maybe these were produced by ResQsoft? It ends in like 2 hours so if you all are able to help, it would be greatly appreciated!

As far as I'm aware Klax was a never completed/released prototype. It's missing music from what I remember but it does work. This is likey someone's made a nice looking repro of it. For sensible money, I'd add it to my collection. I loved Klax on the Lynx.

I got Klax for the 7800 from Good Deal Games (but I think its sold out now).

I haven’t played through it, but others have said its complete except for music.

If you liked it on Arcade or Lynx you’ll want it for your 7800.

30-45 bucks with the manual and box used.  Looks like that guy is trying hard. How about a klax button, headband, wrist watch and underwear?

This was some information about the release in 2002 using "https://web.archive.org".

I’m glad I got hold of a copy from

Good Deal Games... before selling out.

Hope they do a re-run.

The 7800 deserves it.

Do we have the Klax 7800 ROM?

If it’s not in Trebor’s pack I would say it’s never been publicly released. I lucked into what I am sure is a repro copy not too long ago. I was very happy to add this gem to my 7800 Collection.

The ROM has been out for 20 years. It was one of the first 7800 proto ROMs released.

I am fairly sure one who knows the right folks here can get one of those built....I got mine either here or on ebay and it was just a 30$ loosie. (mine looks just like groundtroopers....no "proto" language on the cart)

Do you have one (a link) that would work on a standard repro-cart?

Good Deal Games used to sell it, but its currently not available. Their displayed cart label looks like @groundtrooper

They will be restocking a number of titles in the coming days.

It looks like the fixed Klax prototype for NTSC was added in @Trebors 7800 ROM PROPack v3.5.

Now this takes me back.  15 or 20 years ago, I had tracked down the programmer of Klax and interviewed him for fun.  About the same time, Klax was being assembled on a cart in this release by ResQSoft.  Realizing that our timelines were sort of lining up, we ended up collaborating together, so I contributed my interview to the "Tips and Tricks" booklet that came with that Klax release.

The same guy that programmed Klax made Ninja Golf.  The interview gave insights into how that game came about conceptually, and a few other fun details if I remember right.

I've got one on my shelf. :)

I can't find it with a cursory look, but I thought it was published.  I can keep digging.

Maybe @GrizzLee can help. ;)

No worries, thought you might have it handy. Thanks.

Oh hey,  found something.

@Cousin Vinnie Any chance you can restore this old page to your new atari7800forever.com site?  It seems to have come of interest again.
