I love the broken printers and 800's that the USPS gorilla squad delivers. That doesn't seem to happen with DHL or FedEX. I'm sorry but if that sort of thing doesn't matter, it still comes down to people doing their jobs. Sadly, I actually know a few people that work at the hub up here at the Airport, they are paid very well and laugh about this sort of stuff... It could be worse they say. Perhaps that may be true, but how much worse? Lost, broken, not delivered, mail on the street and in dumpsters? They are better paid than most in this area... iron, coke, chromium, and steel have left this area, as well as coal. Listening to the whining when others are far worse off than they are and the contempt towards those customers is inexcusable. Blame whatever blah blah thing or person you want. Perhaps if they did things well and treated people well they wouldn't have to worry about that political stuff you keep mentioning, they'd have the people on their side, how's about that? E474 Posted February 11, 2021 Share Posted February 11, 2021 I think most people on AtariAge know Jürgen provides great products and excellent service, somehow I doubt this is an attempt at "the perfect crime". Sorry to hear that the USPS is struggling at the moment, in the UK the Post Office seems to be doing quite well during the pandemic, they have made a lot of temporary workers permanent, and started offering doorstep collection of parcels. Of course, the postal service is a British invention (that's why British stamps don't have the name of the issuing country on them), and seems to be handling matters a little better. I too am waiting on package from him that is weeks overdue but the total blame lies with the shipping snafu that this past year has brought with it and not with Jürgen himself. I can see on tracking that the package was sent but then when it was supposed to move from Germany to the US it just disappears off of radar. I am experiencing a similar problem with a BASIC REV.C cartridge that was shipped from Texas and is now weeks overdue. The situation is certainly frustrating but not in any way the fault of either man who has shipped my stuff in good faith. I remain hopeful that both packages will arrive to me eventually. That doesn't seem to happen with DHL DHL is a subsidiary of Deutsche Post which still is partially state owned. Here in Germany DHL is not the cheapest, but among the best parcel services around. They are fast, their drivers know where to go to and they don't just drop items at the front door and run. They even are able to read names correctly. All of which cannot be taken for granted with other services. Some support from the government plus a working regulation of ex-monoplists (which Deutsch Post was) works quite well. From there the Postal service got involved in how the roads and route of this country were used and laid down...During times of crisis and war the military has been known to transport and even deliver the mail. Maybe that's what needs to happen again! Mail used to be delivered several times a day in some areas. Consider that in 1653, Frenchman Jean-Jacques Renouard de Vilayer? (spelling please) (1607–1691) established a postal system in Paris. Complete with mailboxes they delivered any letters placed in them if they used pre-paid postage envelopes that he sold. De Vilayer's? business did not last long when as a devious person put live mice in the mailboxes scaring away customers. (SIR) Rowland Hill (1795–1879), invented the adhesive postage stamp in 1837, and in doing so he was knighted! Through his work the first postage stamp system in the world was started in England in 1840. Hill created the first postage rates that were based on weight rather than size. DHL didn't have much in the way of financial troubles until after becoming a subsidiary of the Deutsche Postal service. In 2008 they almost lost all service in a number of countries, killing off entire towns that relied on them. It wasn't until later that DHL re imagined itself as a private-public partnership and employed private company ideals in their satellites that they started to rebuild and come back as on of the premier delivery services in the world again. And I swear they work on a LIFO model at times... where the trucks from Nov/Dec are still sitting waiting for someone to get extra time to go through them. I'm not too impressed with Amazon's personal delivery service either .. more often than not things just vanish somewhere. Amazon apologizes for the lost/late package and eventually sends another one. I swear its just a driver saying "I don't want to deliver this tonight, maybe tomorrow ... nah.. I quit." FedEx tends to deliver packages before they physically deliver them. I had some Apple products for holiday gifts that were delivered .. and I spent an hour freaking out looking for them only to have the package actually delivered, next to my mailbox, on the road, and hour after I got the notification that said product was delivered. They look like 'Smart Post' labels... last miles delivered by the USPS FedEx SmartPost, which is similar to UPS SurePost, is a hybrid shipping service with which FedEx will pick up packages from the shipping destination, and then hand the packages off to the U.S. Postal Service (USPS) for the final delivery to the end customer. This is not the only time, just the only time I reported it to Chewy (so the only photo I have) who gave me a full refund and the next three FedEx deliveries were fine, then back to destroyed boxes again. It almost like these companies hire people, and if you are unlucky, the ones they hire near you are rubbish but in other areas they might be good! I'd've refused damaged deliveries and/or documentation noting that it was delivered in whatever state especially if I am present for the delivery. How badly were the food and toys mangled? Looks like the kitty enjoys the boxes more than anything else! I still tend to go by the majority of what's happening rather than the anecdote or exception of what's happening. +Allan Posted February 12, 2021 Share Posted February 12, 2021 I can't go into the 'WHY' of it but the reason why the United States Post Office has been so crappy since the beginning of November, 2020 is that thousands of postal workers across the country have been arrested (and fired.) That is why packages are taking so long to arrive or never arrive at all. It has nothing to do with the Christmas busy season. DO NOT ASK ME WHY THEY HAVE BEEN ARRESTED!!! Back on topic: Sorry to here this tf_hh. I have more stuff from tf_hh and I can't recommend him enough. Hopefully this situation can be resolved soon. All of that continued on through 2016 and on and on until finally the lumbering system acted upon it from late november and continuing to this day... Yeah my daughter is a bit of a socialist and keeps me up to date on things real, imagined and otherwise sometimes by shear involvement of unrelated topics. People of note... and for a bonus (as usual) everybody did postal service first tf_hh, We've all been enriched at least in some part by the ongoing discussion of logistics, postal services, the mechanics of delivery and the differing services that are available. So there's that. I hope all packages arrive and are delivered to folks... Making this time as painful as possible is ending as is all that who will be in office stuff. I am certain deliveries will pick up now, little birdies that fed me history lessons are in the know. Who else but a died in the wool postal worker would know all those postal trivia and history points... The maximum pain campaign is over. Now that the hurt is over shall we thank the abusers? Not quite yet though... the practice of sending parcels around on passenger airplanes won't be back to normal until flights get back up to full swing. As an anecdote, an Atari 800XL sent from only 500 miles away was sent USPS Priority (usually two business days after shipped) and the USPS took nearly three weeks I’ve mentioned several times in other threads, but it is MUCH quicker, safer, and generally comes out cheaper if a couple or few people pool an order together and pay for DHL or FedEx air shipping. I’ve pooped up on three orders from Europe and gotten the goods within a week land the net cost of shipping wasn’t any higher after redistributing it domestically. @tf_hh thank you for the awesome stuff you make for the community and for all the help that you’ve given out to the community! 2 Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Deutsche Post transports all parcels by DHL, except for small-sized ones with a max. weight of 2kg and without tracking. But even these get delivered reliably within a week. Another problem in the US are the ridiculous high prices for transportation by these private carriers. DHL takes € 8.5 for 10kg nationwide and €21 EU-wide. Delivery within Germny is usually max. two business days. From my listening to various podcast, I guess that in the US this will be more than twince these prices. Very high on my list of people to buy from, his products are really well made, well packaged when he ships them. Easy to understand instructions and great after sales support.
