Released By:  Imagic

Left Difficulty: B

Right Difficulty: B

Game Mode: Game 1

Post your scores right here in this thread, and we will add them to the list. Remember to play the game with the recommended game mode and difficulty settings as shown above so that your scores will be consistent with everyone else.

The deadline for posting scores is Midnight (EST) the evening of March 7, 2021

Bonus:

3 Crystal Challenge.

This is how this works…

~ Shoot the Aerobots sent up by the Hexuplex.

Get the Crystal. Proceed with gameplay and do this 2 more times.

~ Once you beat 3 rounds of Aerobots and scare off 3 Hexuplexes AND get your THIRD Crystal….. TAKE YOUR PIC!   Don’t go into the cave.

You should have 3 dots in the lower left hand corner of the screen because you got 3 crystals. BUT DON’T go into the cave!!! Take that Pic first!

(doesn’t matter how many lives you have). If you went into the cave… sorry, your score is voided!

Highest score at that point gets +6 Bonus points!

Highest Score = +6 Bonus Points

2nd – 5th place = 5 Bonus points

6 –  10 Place = 4 Bonus Points

11 - 20 Place = 3 Bonus Points

21 - 30 Place = 2 Bonus Points

Just Post a score proving you got 3 Crystals = 1 Bonus Point!

You can now continue your game because you deserve a good score!

Any tips for the laser barriers in the later levels? The timing is bad enough but the fact you only have a limited amount of time really makes it difficult.

@Lauren Tyler PLEASE, OH PLEASE

READ the entire 2600 HSC thread: OLD Season 6, Week 25. There are golden tips provided by @shadow460, who is expert in Subterranea.

Unless there is a scoring opportunity I've not yet discovered, the highest theoretical score for the "3 crystal challenge" is 9470.

This would require finding a way to get through all of the electro-gates before any of them flash even once.

I expect the winning score will be the player who can minimize the number of times these gates flash while maximizing all other scoring opportunities.

I've gotta take my hat off to those who were scoring 20k+ back in Season 6.  I hoped to achieve that by now and may still get there.

Subterranea: 17546

3 Crystal Challenge: 9426

Hexuplex joystick casualties: 2

I'm not sure what it is about that Hexuplex round, but I managed to trash both the CX40-wannabe joysticks that came with my Flashback 2.  I've heard this is a common issue with these joysticks - it's just interesting that both cracked in the same round on the same game.

Oh, No!

I'm almost exclusively committed to the flimsy things, lol-they feel like crap, but you get used to it, they DO respond quite well[my scoring went up, period], and they are easier on the hands.

I've got one that looks just like that from Dragster, so I KNOW there are "games to avoid" with them.

Ugh. Wasn't looking forward to this one already(never played it)(Naw, worse-Man, I'm almost a walking 2600 encyclopedia at this point, I'm not sure I'd ever HEARD of this game...)(That said-it's possible I have a score posted on it from a couple of years ago at TG, and completely forgot I played it, there are...several of those.).

Anyway.

Crap.

Sorry about your stick, AND-very interesting to me that you use one-seemingly out of nowhere(to me, I'm oblivious to a lot), you are taking names and kicking butt, against others I know well that I already done know are fantastic-just helps prove out to me that the Flashback stick is solidly "worth using", I really thought I was just a weirdo, but I have encouraged many of my Friends to try them, I so swear to you!

Hmm. Cool, but also...ugh.

Hmm. Cool, but also...ugh.

I am fairly new to Atariage and only recently discovered some of the more recent developments like homebrews and the Harmony cartridge.  This is my first HSC.  I dusted off the old 2600 and hooked it up about a year ago during the Covid lockdowns, after about the 3rd or 4th day in a row of crawling behind my TV because my Xbox One kept forgetting about its HDMI connection.  It's amazing how a 40-year old console proved to be more reliable than a 4-year old console.  I forgot how much fun some of these old school games are to play.

Regarding joysticks, my preference depends on the game I'm playing.  In addition to the flashback joysticks (which will soon be replaced by the refurbished CX40s I ordered), I have a couple Wico controllers with the switch that allows you to choose between a button on the stick or a button on the base.  I find I have better maneuverability with the Wico stick for games like Millipede or with maze games where cornering is important.  The CX40 is better when I need more precision with the fire button.  For Subterannea, I did better with the flashback joysticks, until they broke.
