Moon Patrol Discussion (Amico Smartphone App Demo)

Recommended Posts

Posted (edited)

Have you completed the Amico Moon Patrol Demo? I have. I was wondering what you all thought of it:

-Can you explain your experience with the demo?

-What control types did you try? Did you prefer one setup to the other?

-Have you convinced anyone else to try the demo? What were there opinions?

-Checkpoint X was tough, right? Or am I just out of practice?

I played it and made it to the end. Thought overall it was good. I did think the level was a little too long, but it was just a demo.

Tried both controller set ups, and preferred buttons. Some parts required ore jump speed precision and the buttons seemed to work better for me.

My wife didn't get through the level and only played it once iirc. She thought it looked okay.

I don't remember checkpoint X. So instead of saying you are out of practice, I will say it was so hard I blocked it out of my memory.

Thanks for the reply, River Patroller!

I used motion controls. I will have to try button controls again to make a final call on what I prefer. I think I would have a better time with button controls if I were using the Amico disc.

I was actually thinking about this game earlier.

I downloaded and played it a while back.  I couldn’t really enjoy it much because neither of the 2 control types felt like they worked for me.  It had that similar vibe I get with many games on mobile, where I think I could enjoy it, if the controls didn’t stink.

What I’m wondering though, when it’s released on Amico, is this the same game?  Or will the actual controller (or any game changes) suddenly make it “playable” to users like me who can’t enjoy it because of “touch screen” controls?

Good questions and I wonder the same. I think the game looks fine and would be fun if not on my phone. The controls just don’t do it for me on my iPhone.

Played the arcade version on my switch today and it’s so much more fun with a real button to press when firing at ships/rocks!

Switch has Moon Patrol, that is great as I bet the game plays great on the Switch since you can play with face buttons. oof burn!

Amico Moon Patrol is played with an Amico controller.  You have the direction pad for faster/slower and the shoulder button for fire.  In the version shown a few months ago they had the entire touchpad for jump but there's no reason the other shoulder button can't be jump as well.

Played it to the end.  Didn't even bother with the tilt conrols, because get real.

It was fine. Played pretty well.  Reminded me a lot of the many 90s/00s attempts to bring retro games into the 3D world.  They kept the gameplay intact, backed off the difficulty and added more levels.  Presumably there's more to the game than what's in the demo.

It's one of those things where it's fun, but also why does this exist?  You want them to retain the core mechanics, but you also want to see some kind of substantive extension of the gameplay, like would happen if they'd done a sequel in the 80s.  Maybe with some challenges, or time attack mode, you'd have something, but as is, just give it to me on my phone for $5 or whatever.  Doesn't entice me beyond that.

I disliked the tilt controls. You will need precision and motion controls for that will not be as good as using the buttons.

I think it took me about 1 and half hours to complete it, the game was very will done in that it improved on the original while keeping the same sort of experience. I had a lot of fun with it, I'll be pretty impressed if the other games are as good. As for the controls, I just kept it tilted it so it went full speed most of the time.
