New FN user, FN not mounting drive

I tried FujiNet for the first time today and while the WLAN setup worked perfectly, most of the time mounting ATRs over the network for booting does not work.

 

Listing files over the network works fine for all servers, as does selecting files into the drive slots, but once I hit [OPTION] I get the "MOUNT AND BOOT" header, a few slow "writing" SIO sounds and then the machine reboots but finds no disc. For some files I get an error message on the MOUNT AND BOOT screen, but most of the time the machine just boots without error message.

 

I have tried about half a dozen discs images from the various pre-installed servers and only ever found one ATR and one XEX demo on Atari8.us that worked (DOS 2.5 found in the DOS folder there didn't work either).

 

FujiNet has the latest firmware.

From the mount and open commands I see above, you're mounting with mode 0x0003, which means READ/WRITE.

 

Since most TNFS servers have file permissions set to not allow write, you can't do that, it will fail.

 

Mount read-only, and you'll be fine.

 

This is important because the file itself isn't copied to your system before use, it's sent over the network as sectors are requested.

No headbang icon here ;) Makes perfect sense, of course. 
 

Would it be possible to ‚trap‘ that during either selection or mounting and revert to read only and/or give an error message (and/or show the permission level in the file listing)?

I tried to understand what is happening in the code. As I said, C is not something I have extensive experience with. ?

 

If I understand it correctly, the retries are based on fuji_sio_error() which in turn is based on OS.dcb.dstats .

 

So after a failed mount attempt in mount_and_boot_mount_all_devices, it would be necessary to read the actual error code code from OS.dcb.dstats. If the error was caused by the target file being RO, write an error message ("R/W mount failed, trying R") and perform another round trying to mount read-only. 

 

(What I don't get from the code is whether OS.dcb.dstats is actually accessible from mount_and_boot_mount_all_devices. If not, maybe fuji_sio_error could be redefined to deliver the actual error code and the comparison >128 be made when it is called?)

 

Would OS.dcb.dstats read 135 when trying to mount a read-only file?

Basically, you'd want to check for any DSTATS != 1 and if so, try again as read only.

 

As for uploading a new config, yes, it is possible, you need to do the instructions to bring up the development environment (We use platform.io, which we use from VS.code) 

 

We provided instructions for this, here:

Once this is done, you can do:

* Modify CONFIG code.

* make dist

* copy autorun.atr to fujinet-platformio/data

* load VS.Code

* Use the fujinet-v1->Upload Filesystem Image task to update the filesystem on the device.

* test

* repeat

 

As for the code being in C, it's merely something I did out of convenience. If somebody wants to write CONFIG in asm or something else, I can help facilitate that.

I recently received by FujiNet and connected it to my XEGS.  My problem is I can't get it to read the SD card.  I followed the instructions from the 'FujiNet For Dummies' video and entered "SD" in the first slot under TNFS Hosts List, but when I select slot #1, labeled "SD", the FujiNet says "ERROR MOUNTING SLOT."  I have a 16GB SD card which I formatted on a Macintosh.  It has a few Atari files on it.  Do I need to format it in a certain way to get the FujiNet to read it?

What brand/size of micro SD cards do people use?  I tried 2 different cards now, both formatted as MS-DOS FAT32, but I still get the "ERROR MOUNTING SLOT" message.  Once I format the SD card, do I simply drag Atari .atr files to it?

 

Also, I downloaded the TNFS server image from atari8bit.net, followed the instructions, and wrote it to a SD card.  When I select the server from my Fujinet, all it sees is a "/" directory which is says it EMPTY.  I made a folder titled "/" on the SD card and copied Atari files to it, but the Fujinet doesn't see them.  What am I doing wrong?

I use a bog standard SanDisk 2GB card, that I got a few months ago.

 

But have used cards up to 64GB in size (kind of pointless, but...)

 

They're formatted as FAT32, and you can simply copy the different ATR, CAS, and XEX files to them, in the folder structure you wish. The #FujiNet will also write its configuration files and the output of the printer spooler (paper) there too, as well as appkey files and the output of the MODEM sniffer.

 

As for the server, I will defer to others who use the image, as I built my own. (paging @Mr Robot)

The SD card and your TNFS server are not related in any way other than you can see them both from your fujinet. 

 

To see the contents of your SD card add a host called SD in your fujinet host list. 

To see the contents of your TNFS server add TNFS.local (or the IP address of your raspberry pi) to your Fujinet host list. 

 

To put files on your TNFS server you will need to find the server on your computer. Samba and avahi are both running so it should appear in the network locations area of your computer. opening that will give you a tnfs folder which is the folder visible to the fujinet. You can also FTP/SFTP onto the tnfs server and the files will be found in the root of the disk in a tnfs folder "/tnfs". if you get asked for a username or password, they are both tnfs

I tried 4 different SD cards in the Fujinet, but it does not read any of them.  Each time I select the SD slot and hit Return, the Fujinet says "Error mounting slot," goes back to the page where it connects to my wireless network, then returns to the screen where it lists the different hosts and slots.  Can anyone thing of something I'm overlooking?  I don't think I'm inserting the SD card incorrectly, because it only fits in the Fujinet one way.

Can you capture some debug output with the FujiNet connected to a computer and run the flash tool from https://fujinet.online/download? Connect Fujinet to the computer, run the tool, press serial debug output button, then press RESET button on the FujiNet. During bootup the FujiNet tries to mount the card and shows error output if it fails.

Here is the serial debug output.  If I'm reading it correctly, it mounts the SD card.  I hooked it back up to my XEGS, but it still says "Error mounting slot."  I'll try it on my Atari 800 and see if it does anything different.

I tried 4 different SD cards in the Fujinet, but it does not read any of them.  Each time I select the SD slot and hit Return, the Fujinet says "Error mounting slot," goes back to the page where it connects to my wireless network, then returns to the screen where it lists the different hosts and slots.  Can anyone thing of something I'm overlooking?  I don't think I'm inserting the SD card incorrectly, because it only fits in the Fujinet one way.

I'm having the same issue with my new Fujinet 1.3.  Does not matter what size SD card I insert and does not show any info except 0 for size and free space in the web screen.  All other functions seem to work great so far.  This makes me wonder if this is more of a board manufacture issue.  I just purchased from The Brewing Academy and may send them a note just to be sure I haven't missed something.  Flashed the latest firmware to no avail.  If a solder joint for the micro SD slot was missed, that would certainly explain this behavior.  I would like to know if others have had this issue and found it to be more a hardware issue then system.

Make sure the card is formatted fat32 and not exfat or something else. Please capture the serial debug output of the boot and attempt to load from the SD card using the FujiNet flasher or some other serial terminal and paste it here. I've had some people try many SD cards before they found one that worked.

My 2 cents...

 

When I was designing my own custom FujiNet board I thought I had mis-wired the SD socket because it never worked. Turned out is was my choice of SD card that was the problem. So as @mozzwald suggested, try a different one and/or brand.

 

Probably be good to start a topic about which cards work and which ones don't ;)
