Bowling score

I played this game today and in the 7th frame i got a 9 with 1 left over that i got on second shot. All the rest were strikes and i ended up with 279. I thought in a game it should be 299. Anyone know why this is?

Scoring in Atari bowling is identical to real bowling. If you get a strike, the next two balls are added to the score of the strike, giving you a possible 30 points per frame.

 

The two balls following your strike in the sixth frame added up to 10 (9 and 1) out of a possible 20 - that's ten points off your score.

 

Since you only got a spare in the 7th frame, you only get the points from the next ball (not the next TWO balls) added to the spare. There's where the second ten points were lost.

 

In order to bowl a 299 you must throw 11 strikes and a nine.

 

Your actual score card would look something like this:

 

1 X 30

2 X 60

3 X 90

4 X 120

5 X 149 (10 for the strike + 10 + 9 for the next two balls)

6 X 169 (10 for the strike + 9 + 1 for the next two balls)

7 9/ 189 (10 for the spare + 10 for the next ball)

8 X 219

9 X 249

10 XXX 279
