I grabbed it on Steam, it was 70% off, similar or higher deals on Quake and Doom 64 since I know Bethesda are control trolls and won't allow uniquely GOG to get those releases which is pathetic.  All 3 for $12, can't complain.

Quake is supposed to be coming to GoG, I don't remember what they delay is.

The Bethesda Launcher version appears to run without any DRM, I grabbed it when it was free (along with Quake 2).

Well I'll believe it when I see it because Doom 64 hasn't either and has been out far longer.  It seems to me anything they want to have a little added control over especially with a networking environment or bethesda logins they don't seem to thrilled with doing.

DOOM 64 is being handled by a different group, Quake is mostly handled by id themselves (what's left of them).

Yeah Doom 64 is nightdive who did it but Bethesda uniquely handling that one. They also did both Turok games, Strife too, system shock, blood, shadowman remastered, forsaken remastered, and quake.  They've been busy.  Largely these games all hit GoG, but the odd pair out so far are those that Bethesda has been more clingy with their networking things and that's doom 64 and quake.  The Doom games would have suffered the same fate, but the copies on GoG are the older actual ones without the lame bethesda net login needed like all other console/mobile releases.

 

That's why I was pointing it out, I think it's a control freak issue over their network accounts.  Nightdive wants their stuff on GoG and pushes it, has them out the same time as Steam.  But Doom 64 and Quake they're left out.  Doom 1-3 would be too, but as I said, they had better non-login required copies already.

Like I said, it's mainly id Software who spearheaded Quake, Nightdive really took a back seat on that one. id passes on requests to Bethesda, and they've been surprisingly supportive of most of their ideas.

 

I tried doing a search on Discord to find where they said why GoG would take a while, but I guess Discord can't do searches for three-letter words.

I got the first one for cheaper than that. Not sure if it's still on sale. I felt like it was $2.

I was going to start a new thread but I will try my luck here amongst you eShop fans!

 

I want to get Dying Light at some point for Switch but the UK eShop has it banned because NOE is based in Germany and they have various laws on content etc.

Physical seems eBay exclusive and expensive.

 

I have a USA eShop account on my spare profile but don't have an American bank or Paypal account to link to it. I have read that eShop currency can be bought and used anywhere PROVIDING it matches the currency of the country. So my question is, in theory then... If I was to agree with a kind person that I would Paypal them some dough and they bought me an eShop card in $ and messaged me the code, could I then download Dying Light?

 

Has anyone ever tried this?

No reason it wouldn't.  The code is just on the back of the card with a scratch off surface.  You enter the code, money goes into account, that's it.

It should work fine -- how much is Dying Light?

In theory, it might be just as easy to buy an online eShop card yourself -- Gamestop.com sells them, and you can pay with Paypal.

Ah thanks both, just went on Gamestop and I can buy eshop credit like you said. I will have to have a think as just realised that if I buy with my spare profile then I will only be able to play it on one of the switches rather than any of them we own. Also need to consider the GBs of space.

Don't use the spare profile.

 

1) Switch your main profile region to USA

2) Buy eShop credit and then the game.

3) Spend any excess eShop credit (use the gold points to help) to get the balance back to 0

4) Switch back to your home region.

 

The only problem is that you can't switch eShop regions while you have any credit on your account. Once you've added a title to your eShop account, you should be able to redownload it in -and- region.

Totally a silly purchase but totally worth it-  Ubisoft's Hungry Shark Adventure is $1.99 on the eshop.   I already got my two dollars' worth out of it!

 

Fortunately, all the silly microtransaction stuff seems to removed from the game versus its mobile brother.   Good dumb fun for two dollars
