Trying to dig this game, but the platforming parts are a real drag. I'm playing on a MAME fight stick. I can use the joystick, the trac ball, or a spinner. What's the best gimmick to use IYO?

It works well with a spinner.  Analogue sticks can also be good if the controller is set up properly (under the TAB menu) for the game.

 

FWIW, the platform areas are difficult even with the roller the arcade game originally had.  The game wasn't designed with much of a difficulty ramp-up - you're going to die a lot while learning the controls.
