Anyone else playing Xenon 2?

How high are people making it in this game? 

 

My high score is 109K. 

 

I was able to beat the crayfish thing, but can't get to the boss after that.

I'm not playing it right now but beat it a few days after the original release/ship date.

On the ST I died at the last boss, never completed it. I don't have the Jaguar version

Of all the post-commercial games on the Jag, I've probably put more time into Xenon 2 than any other.  I really want to like it, but the enemy patterns and level design really bother me.  I feel like they're just thrown in there without much intentional design, and the result is a frustrating mess of a shmup.  It's the same complaint I have with Trevor McFur.  I love shmups, and I love the Jaguar, so Xenon 2 should be right up my alley.  And I do like to play it.  It's just that I always end up wishing it was more like Gradius, R-Type, or Raiden.

 

The graphics are pretty sweet though, and it gets to be more fun when you get more powered-up.

I got it in my recent order with Last Strike and Rebooted. Anyone else having an issue where you can pause the game but it won't unpause? I've tried it on two different Jaguars, same issue on both.

Set the RF 2.0 kit to 9 CPS (press RF button 5 times) for best results.  Game is easier with a joystick, but still a very hard game. 

 

Remember to spend all money in the shop, as you don't keep it.

Don't buy the Super Nashwaan - it looks pretty but they never give it to you when you can actually use it.  Also, remember you can dive

I can now get to level 4.  I've been using the rapid fire twin stick, works great for Xenon 2.  I sort of need to figure out exactly what to buy for certain levels as it makes or breaks how well your ship performs.

I purchased the game as I remember loving it back on the ST. That said I am terrible at it and prefer to just show it off at vintage computer shows. ?

New high score 166K.  I still can't get to boss #2 on level 4, the first type of birds kills me.  Second type of birds looks easier.

I had it on gameboy back in the day. Fun but tough. Good for road trips in the back seat of your moms car.

235,170 new hi-score.  Finally made it to the second type of bird on level 4.

I can now get to the second boss on level 4.  Would be nice to see level 5.

Now at level 5.  This level is very unforgiving.

I thought I had ordered the Jag version, but I was mistaken. Next order. For now I'm consoling myself (and lulling myself to sleep) by playing the Game Boy port.

There was a game boy port?  I've played it on the ST and Amiga.  Damn hard game.  Seemed to me on the ST it ran a little faster (which makes sense), and the Amiga had a bit clearer music samples.  Never have beaten the game, and preferred Wings of Death.  Which I also never beat (without a trainer).
