+Andrew Davie
I thought I'd knock up a quick version of John Conway's Life https://plus.maths.org/content/life-universe-everything Long-press RESET to start with a new random configuration. It shouldn't be too much work to allow you to "draw" a starting pattern, and also allow you to load pre-set shapes. The frame-rate is set to "6" at the moment. It can go 6 times faster. I might make that an option, too. LIFE20210517.bin 12

+Andrew Davie
Different display; same board size (40x22). I think I could probably get the board to 40x33 with this-size pixels, or maybe 40 x 50 with a rearrangement. But basically this was a bit of a what-if, and I'm happy enough with the result. Edit: this is running at a frame-rate of "2" LIFE20210517b.bin Edited May 17, 2021 by Andrew Davie
+Andrew Davie
I like how one of the online pages describes this as a "zero player game". 1
+Andrew Davie
Last for tonight. I fixed a bug in the vertical wrap-around. It will probably stay alive longer now, and looks busier. LIFE20210517c.bin Edit: runs OK on Stella -- has timing issues on hardware. Will fix soon. Edited May 17, 2021 by Andrew Davie

+Andrew Davie
Here's the version that was on the show... only runs on Stella at the moment (timing issues). Controls: SELECT (long press) = next colour scheme RESET (long press) = default colour scheme ... or the other way around. One of those. These both reset the speed back to default, too... press UP a few times for nice/fast view F3/F4 turn on/off B&W/colour (left difficulty) F5/F6 turn on/off "rain" which puts it into an effective endless attract/demo mode fire button = brief rain; use to "jog" a static/dead screen UP - speed up animation DOWN - slow down animation LIFEINSPACE20210519#14.bin Edited May 19, 2021 by Andrew Davie 2

The only issue is with timing; it should work on most emulators, except the screen will roll. However, if the emulator doesn't handle ARM... there's the issue right there. SPIKE
@Andrew Davie HOLY FRACKEN WOW!!!!! i just saw the demo on ZPH and immediately ran here to get the BIN! this is EXACTLY the kind of bizarre noiz thing i am always looking for. THANK YOU so much for developing this. so...i had to weave it into my noiz session tonight. i do a series of improvisational noiz sessions with my project Astrogenic Hallucinauting. - threw the BIN of LIFE in SPACE onto the Harmony Cart. - wired the noiz into a bunch of audio warping things. - wired the video from LIFE in SPACE into my video synth rig and...madness ensued. i also used a program called Zellen which turns LIFE into a MIDI sequencer. (Zellen runs on a noiz computer called norns) figured it was fitting to run the two together. heh! here's a pic of LIFE in SPACE and Zellen at work: and here is the noiz session... all the vid noiz source was generated from LIFE in SPACE and split into multiple vid-synths.
