Keir #1 Posted August 14, 2003 I love the way the Parker Brothers boxes are made - 2 pieces that fit together like the box for a board game. Yesterday I got a CIB Tutankham and the box was the standard Atari type (one piece, opens at the top). Were all of PB's games packaged both ways or were some packaged one way and others the other way?

Were all of PB's games packaged both ways or were some packaged one way and others the other way? They weren't all packaged that way unfortunately. The alternative style is a very flimsy box that opens at the top. I have a Star Wars Arcade Game box that is this style and it's not in very great shape. khryssun #3 Posted August 14, 2003 Keir Wrote Yesterday I got a CIB Tutankham and the box was the standard Atari type Does Tutankham exist only in this box form or it was also sold in the 2 pieces box format ? Thanx
Mayhem #4 Posted August 14, 2003 All the Parker Brothers C64 cart boxes come in the 2 piece format apart from, as mentioned, Star Wars Arcade which is the one piece softer flip top type... no idea why this happened to be like that. All PB Vic20 cart boxes I've had so far (including Tutankham) have been the 2 piece hard type also...
MegaManFan #5 Posted August 14, 2003 Every PB box I've gotten so far (admittedly not that many) have been the two piece: Spider-Man, Frogger, et cetera.
hhwolfman #6 Posted August 14, 2003 My Tut is a two piece . http://www.atariage.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=32031
MegaManFan #7 Posted August 14, 2003 I forgot to mention that one, but I have a two piece Tut as well. That really is an awesome box style - probably my favorite second only to Atari 7800 silver.
Eckhard Stolberg #8 Posted August 14, 2003 When you say that the box opens at the top like Atari's boxes, do you mean it opens on the smalles side, like almost all of Atari's boxes, or do you mean it opens on the picture side like a book, which I think was Atari's original box style for the launch games? I'm asking, because I have some Parker games which open book style on the picture side. They have some German text and the German Parker logo on them, but the game description is still in six languages on the back. The top left corner of the box has been removed to give it an unusual look. Now I'm wondering if this box style was used outside of Germany as well. Ciao, Eckhard Stolberg
DeV0 #9 Posted August 15, 2003 All of my PB boxes are 2 piece except for Popey which opens at the top. The top opening atari style boxes crush too easy due to the cart not being centered. Thats my theory
Marco #10 Posted August 15, 2003 Eckhard describes a third type of Parker Brother box. AFAIK they were only released that way in Germany (and perhaps England?). Cheers, Marco
Dan Iacovelli #11 Posted August 15, 2003 I still have those boxes. In fact if some of you went to VGS you would have seen the spiderman,Reactor, and Gi joe cobra strike boxes(In good condition) I had others there too I think. Dan Iacovelli
Keir #12 Posted August 15, 2003 I checked all my PB boxes last night and I have: Atari 2600 Amidar Atari 2600 Star Wars: ESB Atari 2600 Strawberry Shortcake Atari 2600 Tutankham Atari 5200 Popeye Atari 5200 Q*Bert Atari 5200 Super Cobra Colecovision Gyruss Intellivision Frogger Intellivision Popeye VIC-20 Frogger All are two-piece style except for the aforementioned Tutankham, which opens on the smallest side (I consider that the "top", and the picture side the "front"). I've never seen one like Eckhard describes. Those sound pretty cool! It sounds like all there games were released in two-piece style boxes at one time or another. Anyone want to trade a two-piece Tut box for a (slightly crushed) one-piece? Dan: I'm not sure what you're trying to say. What style boxes are those? Marco #13 Posted August 15, 2003 Not too good a picture, but it should give you an idea of what those 'cut-off' Parker boxes look like. Cheers, Marco
Mayhem #14 Posted August 15, 2003 I remember seeing them as well... can't remember if our copy of ESB was like that however.
video game addict #15 Posted August 15, 2003 Wow those cutoff PB boxes look odd! I like the two-piece designs the best. On the 5200 all except Star Wars: The Arcade Game & Gyruss, are the two-piece designs. Those 2 are the flip top like most Atari games. Actually they are more like Coleco boxes, as the flap doesn't have anywhere to go once it's been opened, it just rests against the next game on the shelf. :/ I guess I could remove the perforated piece from the back part of the box, so that the top flap can tuck inside, but I like to keep them as original as possible. Also my Popeye 2600 is in a flip top box.
Godzilla #16 Posted August 15, 2003 Not too good a picture, but it should give you an idea of what those 'cut-off' Parker boxes look like. Cheers, Marco wild, never seen that before. is there 'box' where the cutoff angle is? or did they literally just cut the corner off?
DeV0 #17 Posted August 16, 2003 I just thought of how funny it would be to read this thread on Boxes from an outsider accidently ending up here, it would seem strange,,,, Anyhow, I like the look of those cut of boxes. I wonder why they chose that path?. Has anyone noticed how the regular 2 piece has the game name and parkers bros printed on the inlay that holds the cart? Brad2600 #18 Posted August 16, 2003 I have so far James Bond 007 5200 Popeye 5200 Super Cobra 5200 Frogger INTV Q-Bert INTV All have the 2 piece box style. I personally prefer this style as the boxes are sturdier and take more crap without collapsing easily.

These boxes are like the book-style Atari boxes, the hinge is on the shorter (left) side. Cheers, Marco
