HSC18 Round 10: THE GREAT OUTDOORS

Recommended Posts

Well, I haven't had much time to play lately, but now I'm determined to have a few goes. Only got around to a couple of games tonight, but they were both fun!

Hover Bovver: 8,070

Hazard Run (Chicken Run - finished): 38,973

Hazard Run (Walton Wood - finished): 70,075

Hazard Run (Bryan's Pond - finished): 89,532

I still need to play Bug Off a few times in a row to verify my theory. I mean if you're starting a game and it is slow going with low scores, just let it die out and start again to see if it is frantic and high scoring, and blast your finger bloody.

Ok, so I had a long session with Hazard Run, playing the three courses not yet played.

Walton Wood - 63031 pts (finished the course)

Bryan's Pond - 94911 pts (finished the course)

Hell's Canyon - 99533 pts (not finished)

I have a feeling that Hell's Canyon offers some really high scores if you finish it, easily six digits. In some places on the later courses, you can jump over two waters in a row but watch out for what follows so you don't crash. Exact position and exact speed helps a lot.

Regarding Bug Off, I found something interesting!!

If you press Select on the title screen, there is a difficulty indicator that moves through nothing, M(onday), T(uesday), W(ednesday), T(hursday), F(riday), S(aturday) and then a bug nest for Sunday. If you play on nothing, the game is slow. Monday is more frantic, and then it increases until Sunday when all hell breaks loose at the start. I don't know what the start screen looked like when I played before (or @therealbountybob for that matter) but clearly if you accidentally play the game on Sunday level, you will almost immediately set a top score.

Bug Off - 22630 pts (starting on no indicator at all = slow game)

I think that is very important to point out.

I played from the default and it went through the days and was still challenging so start on "Nothing" I think!

Have injured my wrist so not playing the games as much as I want to. Will try and get the tables up to date soon and start up the next poll.

re Hazard Run, I did have a double water jump when I landed before a 2nd section of water, didn't make a mega score so perhaps that go was ok Tron04 ;-)

Picnic Paranoia is ok but takes ages to play so I think we have enough games with the 5 we have ;-)

Ok. In my case I noticed quite a difference right from the start on Bug Off which is why I investigated and am ready to enter my later - lower - score as the valid one.

Regarding the Chicken Run in Hazard Run, I don't think there is anywhere in the course with two water obstacles in a row so if the water scene was played twice, it sounds like a hiccup unlike on the later courses which really have that possibility.

I also think we have enough number of games for this round. Actually I'm not likely to get back on the horse again because I found Equestrian to be rather dull and rather spend my time on the other four (Bug Off, Hazard Run, Hover Bovver, Whomper Stomper).

(About Hazard run, my points seems to be quite high..! I don't know if it's the same version that you guys play.

It's on my Atari 130xe with sio2sd, it's a xex file and the only version that i have.

When i play, i crash a coupple times and brake alot, but there is no big problem to come to the end where the policecar crash down in the lake

(if i refule ofcourse))

Sometimes i hate that dog in

Hoover bovver!!

I don't know if the bonus on Hazard Run depends on how fast you went or how many cars you have left, but generally it seems crashing only means losing lives and having to start over from standstill which in some cases means instant game over if you are just next to a water obstacle.

I compiled the scores so far and yours don't look very much off the scale, in particular not if we include Tron04's score of 47,093 on Chicken Run.

Chicken Run
tompateus       48,425
Tron04          43,269 (47,093 with double water jump)
devwebcl        42,500
carlsson        41,258
graywest        38,973
Deteacher       38,864
8BIT1337        37,968
trbb            37,822

Walton Wood
tomateus        82,264
graywest        70,075
carlsson        63,031
trbb            40,864

Bryan's Pond
carlsson        94,911
tompateus       93,892
graywest        89,532
trbb            32,054

Hell's Canyon
tompateus      117,357
carlsson        99,533
