Ultima IV freed... maybe?

So how the times fly... I thought it was only just a few years ago that Ultima IV was given away for free from Electronic Arts.  But it was 10 years ago!

https://www.gameinformer.com/b/news/archive/2011/06/05/does-a-free-ultima-iv-herald-a-new-ultima-game.aspx

Now the funny thing is, GOG still gives it away for free

https://www.gog.com/game/ultima_4

But Origin charges 4.99???

https://www.origin.com/usa/en-us/store/ultima/ultima-iv-quest-of-the-avatar

I don't know about anyone else, but I find this hilarious!  The dreams of that game informer article that there could be a new Ultima on the horizon...  sadly even the 'Ultima Forever' link from that page is dead and now just redirects to ea.com.

I need to have like 3 more of me so me and my clones could work on an Ultima IV (and others) remastered for the Atari 8bit.

It was longer ago than that...I think I got my free copy in 1998.

Yeah, but even if you already have the free version, the Ultima 4+5+6 bundle is still full price.

Ha, for how old they are at this point, and considering you used to be able to get the CD with 1-6 (still have mine somewhere) I would think they should all be free or cheap.

I think they're relatively cheap, although I did buy them on sale.

Regularly they go for $6 each, and some of them are bundles: 1+2+3, 4+5+6, Underworld 1+2.

Looks like the "Worlds of Adventure" spinoffs are still free?

In one of my only moments of retro-self-awareness, in the 90s I built a full collection of all the Ultima titles, and all the Infocom titles, with all the bits and pieces that came in each box (even have the little tool set from AutoDuel!).

Mind you I probably threw away stuff that is 100x their worth many times over, but at least I have those. <clutches fist in sad triumph>

GoG must have an agreement to give it away since they charge for many of the other games in the series?   Either that or EA forgot to notify them to start charging for it?  :)

This Complete Ultima CD can be had for the low price of $199.99!

Haha, pretty sure that is the CD I have somewhere, though do not have the box.  If it had all the maps and all the printed manuals and Ankhs it might be worth that.  But knowing it is basically a box with a CD with everything on the disk... nope!

My copy includes a single, consolidated paper manual for all of the games together with the CD -- though no trinkets or seperate maps. I do not recall if the manual includes printed copies of the original maps.

I have the Ultima I-VI CD,  I don't think it came with any cloth maps or collectables.   It might have just been sold in a jewel case.

Yeah, that was the one I had, and also recall it being just a CD in a jewel case.  At least on GOG, they include digital versions of everything.
