Calab
I have here a Commodore 1571 drive with 120v power connection. When turned on, both the Power and Drive lights come on, but there is no sound from the drive. Connecting it to my C128 does not change it's behavior. If I try to access the drive I simply get a Device Not Preset error message. This drive has never worked for me. My next step is to open it up and look for anything obvious. Is there anything specific that I should be looking for? Thanks!

bluejay
I’ve seen this issue with a 1541 but not a 1571. It happens when you unplug a drive when the computer and drive is still on. I recall that pulling out both 6522s and swapping them around made it work temporarily. Unsure if this will work on a 1571.
+sm3
I think on a 1571, most of the chips will be soldered, unless it was repaired previously.
Calab
Yes, most are soldered. Also I think there is only one 6522 in the drive. It would be easy to try if it was socketed.
