If you released a homebrew before 2016, it is probably on the Super Console X

Recommended Posts

I picked up a Super Console X on a whim the other day. They seem to be everywhere now. Given the nature of it, I guessed the 2600 side would probably be one of those massive everything ever released rom collections. Instead, it appears to be heavily curated and heavy on older homebrews. I have included a directory listing if anybody wants to see if their stuff is on it (I voided the warranty by removing the sticker that was over the SD card :) ).

To give you an idea, here are a few quick photos. I assume those box/cart images are edits of images they got from the AA store.

Drat.  I've got a trademark on Gemintronic so I was looking for any of my games.  No dice.

Guess I have to make more games and give them pirate enticing names like Yaaaarrrrrrr's Yarvenge.

Well, there's only a million of those up on eBay.

Amazon too.

Maybe you can stop them from selling via Amazon, but Ebay?

Looks like KINHANK ist the name of the pirating company. I am pretty sure there are many, many more pirated games on the console. Everybody buying one of these should be aware that he is profiting from theft.

That seems like an impossible battle given how many different sellers are peddling these.  Certainly not something I have time to battle right now.  Do all of these come with the same games?  I haven't looked very closely.

I suppose you are right. Hopeless.

I only looked up the console with the most games. But I doubt they have to remove Atari 2600 games for the smaller ones.

BTW: They nicely marked all homebrews with "(unl)". Unlicensed?

From what I can tell, it looks like each new iteration has more on it. Older ones say 41k, newer 50k+. These originate from China, so I seriously doubt there is much you can do. I spent a lot of time in Hong Kong back in the day. This sort of thing is everywhere over there.

I wonder which emulator they are using. I bet it is a modified version of Stella. Which would be illegal too without releasing their source code.

It appears to be running EmuELEC - https://github.com/EmuELEC/EmuELEC/releases

Not sure if that in turn is using Stella or MESS as a base.

And they are violating their license also:

Please remember, EmuELEC is COMPLETELY FREE! it is not to be sold or included in ANY commercial products as a whole, if you have paid for EmuELEC or an image, DEMAND YOUR MONEY BACK! For more license info read https://github.com/EmuELEC/EmuELEC/blob/master/README.md

Found it. Listed as Stella2014.

No surprise. That version (3.9.3) is on RetroN 77 too. It's the last version without hardware graphics acceleration.

Real WalMart stores or their online marketplace? The later is kind of the same thing as Amazon if I recall correctly, virtually anyone who has some degree of delivering the goods people are ordering can get onto the marketplace (even Atari SA with their VCS).
