bjybjy #1 Posted August 16, 2003 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I saw this on another website and thought you all would enjoy it.............. "So I listed one of my clocks on eBay and it had a bunch of bids, and one guy continually bid on it right up until the last seconds. It sold for $565.10. I sent this loser four eMails over a period of nine days. No response. I called him and left messages on his machine. No return calls. Now I'm just a tad ****** because he's still bidding on other people's stuff so I know he's not dead or his computer crashed or some other lame excuse. I call one of my friends that is a seller and lives back east. She agrees to send him the eMail I composed: "Dear xxxxx, I just did a search on completed items for the antique Thomas Tompion clock you recently won. I am a collector and I have to have this rare clock. I am willing to offer you $750 for this clock and I'll pay the shipping. Would this be agreeable to you? I would say that this is a win-win situation for both of us. Please let me know your decision and I will pay you with any method you prefer. Thank you for your consideration." I got an eMail from him within two hours of her sending that eMail. He asked me if I still had the clock available and he was very, very sorry, but there was a death in the family and he was out of town. I got his PayPal payment within the hour of me responding that I still had the clock. I will send his clock this morning. He sent my friend an eMail telling her that he would sell her the clock if she would pay with a cashier's check or money order. All done? No. Here's the eMail I had my friend send him: "Dear xxxxxx, Never mind. I found one at a yard sale for a buck."-

eric_ruck #4 Posted August 16, 2003 Yeah, really, I'd probably have the confederate string the deadbeat guy along until I could get the money out of Paypal. Eric

Lost Monkey #7 Posted August 16, 2003 I like this story.. too bad I can't somehow apply it to the 20-30 deadbeats I get per month. I find the way to incentify the deadbeats I have is when they find their account suspended, and they contact the sellers they have recently stiffed and promise to pay to get their accounts reinstated. I recently had a 750+ feedback deadbeat who never contacted me once until I sent a NPB. It took exactly 20 minutes to get a response then and she sent me an email every 5 minutes until I responded back... She promised to pay the next day, and then I never heard from her for another 2 weeks. So I filed the FVF, which got her account suspended... Within minutes of filing the FVF, I receive a Paypal "pending" payment notice. For me (in Canada) it usually takes about 5 days for payments like this to clear, so I figured I would wait it out before reporting the payment to eBay. 10 days later, as I was doing a new round of NPB alerts and FVF's, I noticed that this payment still hadn't cleared.. because it was cancelled. So I emailed her.. she didn't reply for 2 weeks, but when she did, she insisted that she would send me money for the auction fees if I reported that she paid to eBay... (so she could get un-NARU'd). My response this time: "Enjoy your hiatus!" She has since been reinstated, just in time for me to leave a negative.. and she hasn't figured out how to leave a retaliatory one for me... http://cgi2.ebay.com/aw-cgi/eBayISAPI.dll?...d=rowanmayfairs
MegaManFan #8 Posted August 16, 2003 I only think I've had to file an NPB once in my entire time on eBay, but since I don't sell a huge volume of stuff every week it just probably hasn't come up for me much. The item that I didn't get paid on was sold really cheap too - I think it was one of those "worm lights" for GameBoy.
