Who here has ever counted the actual number of games in their collection?

Fantastic question, and I believe I would do a little of both.

My Son can sell off the valuable top 5% and hopefully I can help out some Atariage guys build on there collection with some games at very reasonable prices as well.

I have pictured when and if I turn 70 as the time that I may start seriously downsizing my collection.

Thank you Matt for making me seriously think about it!?

Lol!  Sounds like you have some ideas there. I like it!!

Family has instructions to either:

1- Put the stuff curbside

2- Sell it on ebay

3- Lookup select members here on AA

4- Sell a few things things through a specialty auction house

Curbside would be heartbreaking…I like the other options a lot better.   ?

The most likely scenario is that my sons won’t give a s..t about all that stuff, they will think that their old dad was a bit crazy, my precious collection will end up in a box that will be destroyed by humidity and rats…

Shadow and dust…

Sell it before that happens!!

But you could get money for that stuff otherwise!!

I don't doubt that's true. But sometimes sanity and time and dealing with buyers wins out over getting money. The amount of stuff I have is indeed dropping more and more as I focus on practicality and aesthetics and all that.

It's not like I'm throwing NIB CIB MIB carts and boxes out. Last time it was some TRS-80 Model III housings. Some beyond salvage unless you're cutting out the good parts and "bondo-ing" them in to fix up another. Also in the last toss were some of those drives for Model II. Stupid heavy and completely useless. I just wanted some of the levers and springs and motors, so the remains became scrap.

One time I put an Apple II bottom tray and top shell out. Plainly arranged and quite visible there was no electronics. It was gone the same day.

The VAX cabinet, gone in two.

The only thing that seems to sit there for days or weeks on end is any sort of flatscreen TV. They'll remain untouched for 2, 3, 4 days.. Then get bashed in and knocked over.

When we were kids we'd find old tvs in alleys, pull out the vacuum tubes, and throw them on the ground like grenades.  I wasn't the brightest kid.

But it was fun! I don't exactly recall doing that, but I'm sure we did it too. What was fun was BMX'ing through the sewers. We'd blow our whistles as loud as we could making for this screeching sound that'd warble for miles upon miles. Pissing off the "get of my lawn" types to no end. We upgraded through a bullhorn then real firetruck siren.

Here’s our current state:

Including variants but not straight-up duplicates, we have 398 total Mattel-era / “125” games. Of those games:

- 359 are Factory Sealed

- 4 are Toys R Us Sealed

Among our 398, a few are borderline variants, and could be considered dupes:

1) We have 2 Thunder Castles:

     - 1 is signed by the programmers

     - 1 is in considerably better condition than the signed one

2) We have 3 Slap Shot SP Hockey’s:

    - 1 is sealed

    - 1 is in better condition

    - 1 is a “bagged” version

3) We have 2 Chip Shots:

    - 1 is Toys R Us sealed and have a red “NEW” sticker

    - 1 is in considerably better condition than sealed and has no sticker

4) 1) We have 2 “G1” HK LV Poker & BJ:

     - 1 is signed by the programmer

     - 1 is in considerably better condition than the signed one

5)  We have 2 Super Cobras’:

     - 1 is VGA and placed in standard 125 section

     - 1 is simply sealed, and placed with other international Parker Bro’s

6) We have 3ea Gatefold USA Astrosmashes’

     - 1 is VGA

     - 1 is simply sealed

     - 1 is sealed w/ $100k contest sticker

Still, we’re doing pretty good I’d say!  We’re averaging 3.14 variants per 125 title.

Home Brews we have one of every post 2000 release...each NIB and some open box dups and some "Special Editions." We are just moving the collection to it's own museum ... I mean room.  Don't get me started on the hardware...we may need a bigger room...

a lot of different variations. Also the silly ones, like manuals with different shades of the same colors. The duplicates I should try to sell one day or another are "only" about 100-120...

I checked again and realized I forgot to mention that I have a duplicate of most of the homebrews... which increases the total number of duplicates of another 100

Awesome! I'm moving in a month and I'm hoping my new basement will allow me to display even more stuff than the current one. Lol.
