Shannon
I have an executable titled "Vanguard Final" and I was wondering if anyone had any information on this and how it is different from the other Vanguard image that is out there? Thank you
+Nezgar
I guess boot it up, and compare it to the one on Atari Mania? I remember having this game on cart as a kid... http://www.atarimania.com/game-atari-400-800-xl-xe-vanguard_s5645.html

Thank you Check the CRC against other versions, technically it should match the released cart, as for how it's different, impossible to say, could be minor tweaks like speed, chances are it's not majorly different to other versions.. Hard to do. It's an executable. It's 400 bytes larger than the other executable I have and 266 bytes larger than the "Homesoft 5200" version. Now I noticed that Atari Protos has 3 prototypes listed. Mid level WIP, late level WIP and Final version. Of course looking at the descriptions of differences I think it is safe to say none of the three versions I have access two are even close to the first two prototypes. oky2000
Can you upload it so others can examine it? I loved the arcade version of Vanguard, such an awesome early arcade game. 4 fire buttons was cool.
Shannon
ok.. Here they are. Quick play through I couldn't see any diff. Vanguard - Final.zip Vanguard (5200).zip Vanguard (Homesoft).zip
www.atarimania.com
All appear to be exactly the same... or am I missing something? What I'd like to know is whether "our" version is an unofficial port of the 5200 cart or a proper Atari prototype developed concurrently but never released. xxl
"Vanguard Final" - This file is corrupted. see the address, it should be: 86D5: B9 1B 87 LDA $ 871B, Y

"Yours" is absolutely identical to "Vanguard (5200).xex". All files are codewise identical except for loading code and the difference noticed by @xxl ($B9 changed to $41). (Actually there is a second byte changed to $41 - this time from $D0). They files do differ quite heavily in their segmentation of the binary load files. xxl
the problem is that it causes later (when shooting up) the code execution, e.g.: 86D7: 87 1D SAX $1D
Shannon
ok guys thanks. So it sounds like the "Vanguard Final" is b0rked and the other two are same just different segmentation. I found that file at this site http://devwebcl.atarionline.pl/fix/ But no explanation on that site as to what was done to any of the files or what was "fixed". Sorry, I meant the computer version that has been floating around for the last 37-38 years or so, not specifically the file on our site. Do we know for sure it is hacked from the 5200 release or is it a proper 8-bit prototype developed in parallel with the 5200 port?

That is a simple repository with fixed versions I've found in different places. I don't have the info in my blog, and I forgot about it. _The Doctor__
does the above mentioned fixes make this identical to what's out there or if fixed up would this be a better version in some way?
