An Altirra Emulator question or help

Recommended Posts

I am using the Altirra emulator and I am trying to play House of Usher by Crystalware.  I get the game to load, get the title screen, there is a running countdown to begin the game and then it crashes and I get this error message.  I believe the files are actually good files - I downloaded them from the atarimania site - and I am thinking that the problem is on my end and my own ignorance.  Am I doing something wrong or is there a setting I need to tweak in order to get House of Usher to work properly.  Thank you so very much to anyone who can help.  I will include a snapshot of the error screen or crash screen

Hiya .mad, me old mate...Keep those whippets at bay :)

As Atarimania says, you have to go for the real OS's and real Basics with some games as they are poorly coded..

But as a good old gamebase master, playing about with the roms will be a piece of cake for you..

If you need a mostly full rom set then give me a pm..

Paul..

Crystalware programs are usually a mess. If you're not ready to play around with the OS-A / BASIC - Revision A / read-write settings, you'll get nowhere. Let's not even mention how buggy the games are...

Just pointing out the same as you really.

It will still crash when he finds the correct BASIC ROM. ;)

At least the game code is written in BASIC, so it should be fixable.

And yes, the game code is very buggy, due to the randomness of items.

*see picture

i fell out of the screen after a ghost appeared and left a hole in the wall. :P

Hi Paul,

nice to see you still surfing the forums.

doing a GameBase update for XL, so re-testing everything.

Oh, sounds good...Any idea when it will drop?

I guess a couple of weeks.

Just happen to be upto "H". That's why i am here. ?

Here's a game that i also think has problems with Altirra beta test 400:32.

Only the Bit Cruncher version works with OSB.

Latest HomeSoft crack for XL and all other disk versions hang on a black screen.

Can anyone tell me if it really is an Altirra emulator problem, or correct settings to use???

thanks!

Can't get that version going but here's 2 that do work in XL, tried pretty much everything (including basic), just looped through a set of sectors endlessly.. Real drives, the lot....Nothing worked..

Highway Duel (1984)(Dynamics Marketing)(DE)(en).atr Highway Duel (1984)(Dynamics Marketing)(DE)(en)[a].atr

Edit: Didn't spot you had multiple files in a zip, tested all the non OSB versions in it and only the Underground realm version fails..Make sure accurate sector timing is on and any SIO hacks for speed are off..

I'm running beta 37 here and using XL os ver 2, others don't work ie 1 and 3

PS, if you want a hand I'm happy to help..

Thanks Paul,

The OS version was the problem.

When running Altirra it ALWAYS defaulted and selected REV03, no matter what i had chosen.

maybe garbage left in the reg from a previous install or the command-line just chooses first or latest rom found. :P

changed the script to edit the INI to the path and rom file i want instead.

all good now!
