Lol, I remember Pitfall 2 being good to me, but when I looked at the list of the games played this year, I'm scratching my head as to how I even wound up in the silver bracket, especially petering out like I did! My all time favorite 2600 game is "Millipede", and nothing we played dethroned it from my top spot. My second favorite this season is "Robot City", an excellent homebrew. For most surprising, I pick "Empire Strikes Back" and "Fireball". I did not expect a "shoot the hell out of imperial walkers" game to have so much strategy. I have never cared for "breakout" style paddle games, but just couldn't stop playing Fireball. The worst games were "Dishaster" and "Strategy X". Dishaster was just plain boring once learning the strategy. The controls for Strategy X were terrible, especially with the lack of diagonal movement. After playing a couple games of the original arcade version on mame, I realized it's a pretty terrible port. As a group, I was disappointed with the Imagic games. As much hype as they get, I was expecting better. When ranking all the games from this season, none of the Imagic titles made my top 10, but multiple made my bottom 10. They get kudos for detailed sprite graphics, but the game play/design was often lacking. The difficulty level either never increased enough (Atlantis) or it ratcheted up to the point of ridiculous too quickly (most other games). We even replaced Cosmic Ark with another game because of an ill-thought out design that allowed for infinite point leeching. 7 Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

And my picks: Top 2: Moon Patrol Pitfall II: Lost Caverns Most Surprising 2: Super Cobra (I actually got a cartridge of this second hand, only to have it turn out to be a PAL cartridge. ) Atlantis (This time I got a working cartridge.) fakecortex Posted July 29, 2021 Share Posted July 29, 2021 Alright, I gave it some thought, meditated, prayed to the Atari gods, slept on it, mulled it over, and finally have my season picks: Favorites Pitfall II - I’m proud of myself for how dedicated I proved to be at getting a perfect score here. I really enjoyed making my way through the game and know I’ll end up doing it again at some point. Robot City - I want to get even better at this one bc it proved to have a lot of complexity to it, and it was just a lot of fun! Most Surprising Star Voyager - I wouldn’t say I gravitate towards first person space shooters (ha) but I found myself really liking this one. Didn’t hurt that I got in a groove and really impressed myself. Fireball - I like paddle games, and I like breakout, but I was surprised how much I liked this one. Makes me want to track down a supercharger and play it on cassette. Worst Spike Peak - this frustrated me and felt unresponsive. So challenging and fast! Plaque Attack - Once again... fast and furious action. Activision's scoring system is always GREAT! Most Surprising: Mountain King - Great ideas here. Find a flame with a flash light while listening to a sound. Take the flame to the temple. Enter the temple. Get the crown. Take the crown to the mountaintop. I never played anything like it when it came out. Still love it today. Solar Storm - I don't think I ever played it before. It was surprisingly good. Worst: Spikes Peak - Need I say anything.
