Season 19 Round 8 - Mighty Bomb Jack

This is the first appearance of Mighty Bomb Jack in the NES HSC.  I recommend reading through the manual as the controls and power-ups aren't immediately apparent.

You may post a score for any title, during the current regular season round.  Score improvements are always accepted as well.  Points for these games will be awarded at the end of the season.  Each game will be scored like a regular season round, e.g. first place will receive 25 points, second 20 points, etc.  All points earned here will be added to your season total.

General HSC Season Rules:

  • To participate, just post a score to the thread. Anyone can join in at any time.
  • A picture or screenshot is encouraged when posting a score but not required.
  • The season is 15 rounds long.
  • Games will be posted on Sundays and run two weeks through Sunday at 11:59 PM CST.
  • Do not exploit game glitches, take advantage of 1-up loops or intentionally die in order to replay a level.
  • If "point pressing" is not specified in the game rules you should be moving forward in an attempt to complete/loop the game and not "camping" for points.
  • No emulator save states, slow-mo, rewind, etc.
  • No cheats, e.g. Konami code, Game Genie, etc.
  • Turbo controllers are allowed.
  • Round points are awarded according to the following chart:

I was just getting a hang of this game and then it threw me into the torture room and I was like WTF do you gotta do here?

You get thrown in the torture room if you collect too many coins. Then I think you have to jump 50 times to escape. It's stupid.

 

I think that it also resets everything in the level so something that could be abused for points. Best to avoid it altogether.

I played Palamedes but it never went back to the screen to show my score.

For Palamedes just start a new game and it shows your score in the high score spot.

I'm really digging this game, but having a hard time with it.  Can't seem to figure out any strategies, so I'm always in "react" mode.

You can just scroll enemies off the screen in classic NES fashion. Or if you have enough mighty coins (the ones with the faces on them) you can transform all the enemies on screen into gold coins by using three mighty coins (the coins with the faces on them) by pressing B. Mighty coins also temporarily let you open locked chests. But if you collect more than nine mighty coins then you're sent to the torture room where you have to jump 50 times to escape.

 

P balls will also turn enemies into coins. They appear when you collect enough bombs.

Gonna have to work that in.  Seems like a lifesaver.

 

I had also been ignoring the "get them in order / while fuse is lit" at the end of the levels, previously.  Focusing on that really jacked up my points.

I had a run where it seems to have glitched in the torture room.  Made me invincible, so all I had to do was sit there and touch enemies for points.  It was weird.

 

Not posting that score, of course, because it didn't seem legit at all.
