ACTIVISION in trouble...

Faicuai

Recommended Posts

...Founded by departing Atari employees, and one of the very few (and VERY successful) survivors of the era, with one of the oldest serving CEOs in the industry... now mired in deep, internal conflicts...

Activision Blizzard lawsuit could be a watershed moment for the business world. Here's why - CNN

Funny how after so many external challenges, real trouble ended-up brewing inside...

Hoping the best outcome for the company, and employees...

Well to be fair, the story is breaking everywhere, especially the part about Blizzard and how it treated their employee's. Their head has stepped down to pursue other activities..

i found it valid to discuss the issues and even got lawyers envolved. it is 2021 and not 1970's Atari bath toob Managment meetings. Search for Nolan's "sorry" about those actions. same with equal pay of devs and other jobs etc... ;)

Sky News Australia is currently banned from uploading to their YouTube channel for *lying* about covid. That's probably a channel to really avoid paying too much attention to. I was also thinking about Nolan Bushnell and the early Atari corporate culture, and things have changed quite a bit. There's an interesting, though NSFW due to the language, article here: https://www.theguardian.com/games/2018/feb/01/nolan-bushnell-atari-pioneer-award-game-developers-conference-san-francisco about the Game Developers Conference changing its mind about an award for Nolan, to be honest it's describing the sort of behaviour that would have corporate lawyers passing out from fear these days.

There are reasons to practice skepticism regarding what is in the news.  Let's wait for them to have their day in court and verify that it's a fair trial.  Are we now to the point of guilty until proven innocent?  Notice how they use the loaded phrase 'watershed moment' meaning "a critical point that marks a division or a change of course" aka, advocating socialism.

@E474, just because YT censored a channel doesn't mean it's legit. They hire and work with known partisan organizations.  This is well known. The censoring is biased. Please take some time to research this and please don't take YT as an 'authority' on truth.

Quote

In a statement, Sky News Australia’s digital editor, Jack Houghton, said:

“The freedom to engage in debate and challenge conventional thinking and wisdoms were not always accepted as human rights.

Philosophically the notion has existed for millennia with the most modern interpretations gaining their foothold in Greek debating chambers.

It has changed shape frequently and even been snuffed out by leaders of more totalitarian persuasions.”

Only 'approved' opinions and thought are allowed on YT.  They selectively censor to silence (snuff out) opposition to a particular world view while citing vague safety excuses to deny debate and different viewpoints.

No doubt about it...

...But notice the parallelism between Uber and (now) Activision, both mired in the same chaos... Travis is out... don't know whatever happened to him... Let's see what happens with Bobby and (most intriguing) his company's board.

I presented CNN because it "rang the phone" first... no idea of any outlet's motivation, but... the "scandal" is now in full swing. That's for sure.

@Sugarland interesting point, for balance (and by Googling):

A spokesperson for YouTube said: “We apply our policies equally for everyone regardless of uploader, and in accordance with these policies and our long-standing strikes system, removed videos from and issued a strike to Sky News Australia’s channel. Specifically, we don’t allow content that denies the existence of Covid-19 or that encourages people to use hydroxychloroquine or ivermectin to treat or prevent the virus. We do allow for videos that have sufficient countervailing context, which the violative videos did not provide.”

For its part, Sky News Australia has rejected the claims of Covid-19 denial while also stating that “no such videos were ever published or removed.” One of its most popular videos published in mid-2020 explicitly stated in its title “this virus is not a pandemic.”

I have a feeling that these posts are heading towards being political though, and so liable to be removed from AA by the mods.

Personally, I have seen the workplace environment going from an office where the atmosphere was thick with cigarette smoke, and a Friday lunchtime drink at the local pub was the norm, to a much healthier workplace, though with a seemingly never ending working day.

Sky News is owned by Newscorpse and is Murdoch's propaganda empire, in political and social terms that means it's more about opinionism than actually reporting any truth. Opinionism is nothing more than a modern day play to swing the masses via undeniable manipulation, hence the reason they were blocked on YouTube.

YouTube is nothing more than a medium, there's plenty of factual content on YouTube if you care to look. Blaming YouTube for manipulative opinionism is like blaming paper for the same thing.

Nah, we are fine.

After all, what is happening in Activision is also extremely-political (internally) in nature.

There is no need at this point to transform the thread into a "self-fulfilling" prophecy. No one here can fix any political train-wreck, anyway, so we are better off keeping our powder dry.

Let's see how Activision drama unfolds ...

Peter Tonagh and Michael Miller are the CEO and head honchos of sky news Australia at last glance, though that of course may have changed again. as for YouTube? youtube is a joker that censors, demonetizes at will , and certainly doesn't deserve any protections, as it clearly acts as an edited medium, and is clearly one sided. As an independent I can see this easily while many who pick political affiliations don't seem to be able to.

As to what goes on in Activision / Blizzard et al... I will wait and see what shakes out, there will be plenty of BS and the normal litany  of this side that side... it may be hard to see or get information as usual since we will more than likely only be allowed to easily see on side of any of it as usual, but if we dig deep and read the actual court room transcripts rather than consuming the drivel they allow us to see on not see on these platforms, we may just be able to make up our own minds with at least some of the information available to us rather then the filtered or censored biased crap we get from everywhere else.

You know what? When doing the SNES Christmas demo I was not even sure if it's ok to present Vanessa in that outfit but it was a team decision. Gaming and music and movies etc are getting towards sensitive things which we took for granted in our youth. (Look at old KISS videos or Hip Hop ones eg.)

When it comes to retro demoscene/gaming, I think you'll get away with it due to the demographic (pun intended!). ;)

Sigh, the moment the gaming industry turned to the suits it became toxic...I'm all for improving and better products, but I'm not sure if that happens for the most part. I just want it to be about gaming or utilities and not a political situation that gets pushed.

I know my viewpoint is simplistic, but that is all I'm interested in, the games, the software, not the rampant BS that runs through the industry..

Roll on the updated Montezuma, a product taken back by the maker and produced old school..

I'm all up for fighting discrimination and harrassment, and there is no doubt that these are rife within all the industries, but the  problem is that in the current climate these accusations/lawsuits mostly use carpet bombing technique, throwing just about everything they can find into one bag. In this case, stuff like "cube crawls" is pretty disgusting, and so is groping and making rape jokes in a workplace. Then it gets trickier: eg the mentioned suicide might or might not be connected to harassment. It's something that should be calmly examined by a judge weiging all of evidence, which given the circumstances might be very conjectural. It's similar with the discrimination claims, some of them might be valid, some not. Unfortunately, when there's so much external pressure it's fairly easy to just tick them all off in the same manner.

Then you also get the surreal stuff, such as saying that males "'proudly' arrive at work with hangovers" or "discuss sexual encounters", which is gearing toward some truly puritanical attitudes.

Unfortunately in the social media era,  "guilty until proven innocent" is fast becoming the norm.

Okay, I can't be the only one whose interest in this SNES Christmas demo is piqued... link please?

EDIT: Never mind, found it.  Nothing offensive here!

@SugarlandAnd yet now Sky News Australia is deleting videos from its own website, quite a few according to the list at the end of this article: https://www.theguardian.com/media/2021/aug/10/sky-news-australia-deletes-dozens-of-videos-promoting-unproven-covid-treatments

There are now numerous outbreaks of covid in Australia, and only about 18% of the population is vaccinated. Could it be that Sky News Australia doesn't want anything to do with their earlier coverage?

As an Australian, the Murdoch propaganda empire, which owns ~70% of all Australian media as well as Sky News have been a major source of misinformation regarding COVID. The fact they're deleting video's is a great way to imply guilt.

Alan Jones is a vile man and Peta Credlin is hardly any pillar of respective journalism. All have been told to literally 'pull their heads in'.

Toxic workplaces aren't uncommon in this day and age, as sad as that sounds. You'd think such issues would have been left in the early 90s somewhere, and yet here we are.
