knievel1
Sounds insane but I figured if anyone would know . . . it would be this board. I recall an article around 80/81 about using a VCR with Atari games. It talked mostly about Miniature Golf and how they used recordings to ace the game. Seems they also had instructions on how to hook both up. My dad worked at a Houston TV studio & we had a spare U-Matic. I didn't have an Atari yet but that made me double up my efforts. Magazine could've been something like Electronic Games (which started in 81) or maybe Omni. Anyone remember that article?
jhd
I am unclear on what it is that you are describing. Were these instructional videos, or games that somehow used the Atari 2600 in conjunction with a videotape for gameplay? Either way, it would be cutting-edge for the early-1980s. Yoruk
I was willing to post this : But after reading your post again it seems that it's absolutely not this, sorry. So this system was able to record on VCR tape the video output of the console ?
nick3092
The 2600 just outputs RF. Feed the RF into the antenna in jack on the VCR and the output RF/composite from the vcr to your TV. Then tune the vcr to channel 3 or whatever the console is set to. Then press record. I don't see why this wouldn't work?

I don't recall reading the specific article in question, but it may have been discussing using taped gameplay as a way to study mistakes and improve performance.
knievel1
This was a magazine article way back. Not trying to connect the VCR to the Atari, actually attempting to figure out when we got our 2600. Thanks for the replies though.
